the american region one version is about 2:1 anamorphic, and is cropped heavilly in my personal opinion. so are there any regions that have it in 2:35;1?

Cropped? I thought it was unmatted slightly on the top and bottom.

I looked this DVD up on both CD Japan and Amazon Japan. Both list this title as "USA Version." Any idea what this means?

I'm pretty sure the US release was cropped. Ends up being something like 1.93:1 instead of 2.35:1.

Good question. Maybe they had an alternate cut in Japan when it was released in theaters?

The Japanese release also has a dts track available, if that's something you're interested in.

The European version (i think) of the movie has the extra "lives of the henchmen" scenes in the movie.

Also the scene where Austin says "I never forget a *****...cat" the pause between the words is much longer.

And it also has the Christian Slater security guard scenes in it.

I bought the VCD of this cut of the movie years ago off Ebay.

Sadly they didnt leave in the "Fendi Case" scene

particularly in the opening when dr evil shoots the guy dressed as a woman with a bow, you can't see the bow in the cropped american version.

So the Japanese DVD is the U.S. theatrical version in the proper aspect ratio?

The American DVD isn't cropped. The mattes have been opened to expose some extra picture information at the top and bottom of the frame. If you think certain scenes look too tight on the sides, it's probably your TV's overscan.

The Austrailian DVD is actually 2.35:1 anamorphic and the longer "international" cut of the movie.

The international cut really is worth seeing. There are a LOT of small tweaks done throughout the picture.

Be careful of the Australian release as there are 2 versions.

The UK disc is the way to go. On sale too www.amazon.co.uk
