What is this Studio Ghibli set?

Someone at work has a set of Studio Ghibli movies, two movies per disk, on seven disks. It plays on a Region 1 player. The text on the box is all in Japanese, so I don't know how to search for it. It's not the ~$250 limited edition set. Does anyone know where I can find this?

Yeah, that definately sounds like one of the old bootleg sets that were made from the old laserdisc transfers of the films. Needless to say that they aren't nearly as good a quality as the official releases.

I was at a friends house and he goes back and forth to Japan all the time. He had one of these. I didn't get a good look, but it seemed to be a basic box set and I think it had all the early movies thru Mononoke. He said he got it in Japan, but I don't know if it was a boot there as well.

Minor correction: Six disks.

There's a logo that popped up every once in a while during Porco Rosso. It's a red A in the top left corner.

that is definitely a bootleg set that is/was widely available. the red "A" stood for one of those bootleg companies (Anime?)

Thats the bootleg set I have, and been discussed many many times.
Produced by a "company" called "Anime Cartoon International",
which is not an official company.

this one right?

That's the one.

Too bad it's bootleg. Now I don't want it. Ghibli is cool and deserves my money. I'll wait.

OK, I've looked all over the boards for information about the set pictured below, and only this thread seems relevant.

What's this box set?

you might be lucky and see a japanese or R1 USA boxset eventually, but you cant bet on it. prices are always tempting, but youre pretty much always buying a boot if the prices good : if it seems to good t be true, it probably is.

Thanks, y'all. I'll steer clear of the piece.
