That's a nice looking set. I wonder what's on the extra 2 DVDs?
(I don't see any mention about what is actually included on the discs, just the mention of the CDs, 96 page book and 6 photos)

Will there even be english subtitles? I might just buy it for all the shit it includes. Looks very cool.

edit: On second thought, I doubt I would even watch the movies, since I have the R1 and R2 releases. I would be mainly interested on how they handle those discs of extras (forced subtitles, french language extra's...etc).

Good point about the subs. They're kind of necessary for a lot of Vol 1 and one chapter of Vol 2 (well, except for those of us who have practially memorized these films ). So far there are many unmentioned details regarding subs, what cut of Vol 1, extras, etc.

Yay, I purposely haven't purchased any of the previous releases figuring they would release it in some sort of big box like this. Hopefully it'll be a remastered set, the previous DVD transfers haven't been great.

Surely they were good enough?? It's not like the quality was bad, right?

They're pretty poor transfers, Kill Bill 1 was marginally better than 2. Quote from ign.com dvd review in regards to KB2 -->

"Watching it at the office on a 17 inch monitor, I could spot the edge enhancement and halos. I was dreading how this would look when I got home and blew it up on a 56" television, and my fears were founded.

It's ugly, the worst transfer to come from Disney since Pirates of the Caribbean. The Black Hole looked better and that movie is 25 years old. The high frequency filtering is off the charts on this one, reducing almost everything in the background to a smear. Even foreground shots aren't that good, as there is notable softness in the faces."

Not a problem (as far as I can tell) on the Japanese disk.

I sure as hell didn't see anything wrong with it on my big tv, so I'll run it on the computer and see if I can spot those 'defects'.

great looking set.

but it MIGHT be "barebones" of both versions even though there are 2 discs a piece.

http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/article.as...5ea5298a9&Fr=0

FNAC (a chain of stores in france), has the 2 disc version of Kill Bill already out, looks like disc 1 is the movie, and disc 2 is the "making of", the performance with the 5, 6, 7, 8's, and so on. So this might just be a fancy repackaging of the 2, 2 discs barebones that are already out there.

Very true!..but i guess you could look at it this way..with the actual film dedicated to having its own disc, that would allow a higher bit-rate and possibly better quality transfer! (?)

The image quality of the existing French R2 Vol. 1 certainly gained a high assessment :-

this is a very interesting set, I don't understand why the thread almost died. as for the subs trouble according to dvdfr.com they are not imposed http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/dvd.php?id=13516
furthermore amazon.fr is offering a 10 euros coupon for everyone buying the set.

Aces go Places!

At least it doesn't have that bearick rubbish of the OTT Jap set. Katana sword, rite.

Or shall we sit it out an wait for the 10th Anniversary Version?

How many times are we taken for a ride? More than twice apparently.
