'The Howling' Double Disc UK Edition question
The Howling
word is that the porno film within the film was axed from the upcoming SE of the film (due to BBFC objection), right?
are there any other region editions that retained this 'featurette'?

The "Fake Porn Movie Footage" extra was only included on the first 3000 copies of the Kinowelt Howling SE. The latest issue of Video Watchdog says that all 3000 sold out in two days. Xploited Cinema carried it at one time, but now they only carry the second pressing. In any case, I got the set for Father's Day and the footage isn't what you'd call interesting. There's a "view at your own risk!" disclaimer before it that's got to be a joke. The footage is comprised of two scenes, 3:55 total, and apart from a lengthy shot of the girl's escutcheon in the "plunger" sequence, there's nothing graphic about it at all. It was effective in the movie since it was seen in short flashes but viewed all at once it's just some people writhing around and pantomiming these unspeakable acts, which is unintentionally kind of funny. The set is very good otherwise and I like the Kinowelt doc better than the MGM doc, but it's not worth paying eBay prices just for the faux porn stuff.

We have reviewed this October 18th 2-disc release of The Howling here.
Snippet:
‘The Howling’ is a film that may be starting to show its age, but it still remains an impressively atmospheric take on the werewolf myth. This R2 DVD package is also impressive for the most part, with a respectable video transfer, nicely remixed audio and some interesting extras. Those with the R1 special edition may think twice about picking up this version, but those fans who have yet to buy ‘The Howling’ could do a lot worse than starting with Momentum’s DVD.
