This says the GDFace logo shows up every 5 minutes throughout the film! Can anyone verify? I haven't watched mine yet.

I received the Extended DVD-9 version a couple of days ago and yes, the logo is there every 5 minutes or so.

Can "sort of" be disabled by manually selecting no subtitles and then back to English again as most of the time the logo appears there is no talking going on so you don't miss anything.

For me the extralong scenes made a difference to the movie, it now feels more paced and a better movie. The other cut felt more like an action movie, this new one is a bit less so, to me that is a positive thing.

I would say most fighting scenes are extended.

hey i remember them saying that the disc was mastered as a high-definition disc so should be equivalent of "superbit"... but it clearly isnt. the print does look washed... shame.

That was the sales pitch in addition to the extra 10 mins.

Actually, 18 times for 30 seconds each. About once every five minutes throughout the movie. I reauthored the DVD and made myself a copy without the watermark, which is in the subtitle file.

And while I was at it, I included the beginning and end text in the subtitles.

That's a great idea. Would you be willing to share the subtitle file you edited? Can you host it somewhere?

Almost all DVDs are mastered in high definition and downconverted to standard-def these days. That has nothing to do with the quality of the color transfer. Completely separate issues.

I would be interested in that subtitle file also.

Demux the subtitle file off the DVD then deleted every 144k bitmap file, which was the FACE logo. Save it and mux it back on the DVD.

Although we may be close to violating the forum rules with this discussion, I'll add this:

The subtitle file won't do anyone any good by itself. As mentioned above, you need to demux, edit, mux and burn the results back to DVD. There are freeware programs available to do this.

Or, wait for the Miramax R1 release.

thumbs to all the efforts that went into comparing the many versions
of Hero
but a very important comparison is missing,
what's so different in the so called extended cut
I know we're not talking about extended in terms of LOTR ext ed.
but is it even worth to get the extended cut especially considering the fact they used the same crappy transfer?

I would probably just recommend people getting black tape and covering up the upper left part of their screen where the logo pops-up.

In this day and age where we have watermarks on every TV station, it shouldn't be a surprise that this is happening. Although, the stupid FACE logo is not even translucent or faded.

BAH! The movie sucks anyways, I am just a Jet Li whore and wanted to add to the collection.

I'm going to attempt to do this -- I'm a newbie when it comes to authoring, so Jaspear can you help out? Please PM me or email me at digizenATgmail.com , since you seem to have PM turned off.

Yes, major bummer. They had the best price by far. Hmmm... is that a rat I smell, or is it Miramax?
