Hero (Korea 3Disc "Ultimate Edition")?

Anyone know what extras are in this? Or if it's got a better video bitrate than any of the current releases?

Dunno. Check the recent Hero thread I started to see if anyone has any info there.

Still, that set looks really cool:

Any possible chance in hell this version contains the longer cut? Like, maybe that site got the info wrong? I really want to rationalize my inevitable purchasing of this.

I doubt it, but I think I am definitely going to pick this one up. The only other version I have is the original HK release, which wasn't that good.

After looking at the packaging again, it looks exactly like the Wonderful Days 3 disc set, but reversed. Is this being released by the same company?

Nice packaging, but no way am I buying another version of Hero until the Director's Cut comes out.

From speculations on other forums the general opinion is that this will be identical to the set already out there, with the addition of 'Cause', which is a sort of extended making of documentary available for sale on it's own in some regions.
This seems to go with the original stated running time for this set.

As far as I know the ETA is still TBA at this point. This is just a educated guess on my part and could be totally wrong, but I'd say we probably won't get it in 2004. That'd be unfortunate, but it's a good movie even in it's theatrical cut and I think my 2-Disc Edko will hold me over until then.

They changed the front cover image.

Also, that site lists the movie at being 99 minutes. And isn't there some confusion over what really is the director's cut? Apparently the 99 minute version is the longest version that's been released anywhere in the world, right?

And something else to consider with that set:

Titles produced in Korea are subject to government censorship when it involves nudity and violence. Although the censorship has been lessened over the years, frontal nudity and extreme violence(although rare) are forbidden. Please be careful especially when purchasing erotic movies. When you are worried about censored and deleted scenes of graphic violence and frontal nudity, do not buy from our site.
Is that a factor in this release? Who knows.

Thanks Joe. I have a horrible copy (I think a bootleg) of the Region 0 version (no subs during the title/end). I keep wondering if I should dole out the $$ for the crazy R2 boxed set, purchase this new 3 disc Korea set, or just wait for the next release.

Gil...I don't recall any extreme violence or nudity in Hero.

Nobody mentioned yet that, at this point, there aren't any English subs announced.

The fineav Korean site, I think, just states the extras from the 2-disk set.

This is a collector's item, nothing more.

Some Korean sites say yes some say no. More say no than yes, so I said there aren't any based on that.

Is this full bitrate DTS? (The previous R3 release does have a full bitrate track, right?)

What language are the extras in? If it's in Korean does it have English subs?

While I don't know for certain, I highly doubt there will be English subs on the extras. It'll probably be Mandarin with Korean subs. But I'm still getting it regardless.

Extras are exactly the same as every other 2-disk SE of the movie, save for Cause, which I gather is in Mandarin. I haven't seen it but I'd guess it has a lot of behind the scenes footage, so subs wouldn't be needed for that. If there are interviews, they'd be subbed in Korean only. I haven't seen Cause available with English subs yet, so I'd be surprised if it had any.

Thanks for the info. Can anyone compare this to the Japanese R2 version for PQ? I'm still trying to decide between the two.
