Ong-Bak with English Subs

I hadn't heard anyone mention this, so I thought I'd post it.

http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.asp...ection-videos/

I thought the consensus was that the Hong Kong version wasn't going to English subs. This is the VCD version unfortunately, but does this mean the DVD is going to have English subs as well? Or is this just a misprint on the site?

Some sites seem to cut and paste material from other editions....

.... anyone know if that holds here?

Ah, crap, someone beat me to it. I was in Hong Kong over the weekend and a store owner said the VCD was coming in next week.

I couldn't care less about the VCD; what excites me is that DVDs usually come out around a month after VCDs. The DVD's probably gonna have English subs. I've never heard of a HK DVD without them.

(in an unrelated note, I found every Shaw Brothers DVD Celestial released EXCEPT 8 Diagram Pole Fighter and Flying Guillotine. What the hell is that all about? (Those are the two movies I wanted most.))

I already answered your question in the original thread, but it seems that you didn't read it... possibly because of the ridiculous turn in took when the punctuation nazis hijacked it. Anyway, my response was:

It is also listed (the VCD) with English subs on the Layoyo.com site... so I think you can be pretty sure that when the DVD is eventually released in HK, it too will have English subs.

Actually I did read it, but apparently the mods decided to close my old thread and then restart it with a more appropriate title and lack of punctuation discussion. I'll say no more on that topic.

But anyway, I hope you're right though. I know there are (unofficial) ways of getting the english subs, but I'd rather have an official release with the english subs already there. And even if you can understand the movie without understanding the dialogue like some people have said, I still refuse to buy it without subs.

Just because I feel like contradicting myself, dddhouse says (apart from there being no English subs on the VCD) the DVD will not be coming any time soon.

Ah, crap...

My fault.... in my haste to fight the fire I overlooked that post which I should have copied over.

Yeah, it's on my next order also. It's probably gonna be bare bones, but hey, like I care, I'll have the movie in NTSC, which is definitely worth it. I'll should have it in time to show my brother when he comes visit me next month. So I'm happy.

I REALLY hope dddhouse has it wrong. Whatever the truth, we'll find out next week. I will say that it would be the first time a HK DVD wouldn't have any English subs, or at least the first time I see it.

YesAsia still has it listed with English subs as well, so I'll hold out some hope, but it just seems unlikely that DDDHouse would say that it has English subs, then come back and say they were wrong and there are no English subs, and then it would turn out that there really were English subs all along.

In fact, layoyo shows the same as DDDhouse. VCD has both Chinese and English subtitle, but DVD only has Chinese subtitle.

It did list English subtitles when it was first listed. Someone should be able to confirm the content of the dvd in the next few days, but it's not looking good so far.

Kind of off topic but it concerns Ong-Bak.

I just saw a movie trailer for the movie on tv. It comes out in June in Korea. The DVD, I surmise, will come out three or four months later. I don't think there'll be subs on it, but we can always hope. The trailer had a voiceover that was completely in English. That's a good sign, right?

It sucks if this is the Besson cut of the movie which edited out some of the more harder violence.

VCDs don't scare me. But what I want to know is did they snip a few shots off?

...which I think they did according to another forum.

And mentioned in this review
