Does the Region 2 edition have English subtitles in the beginning of the film (during the on screen text introduction)?

Hi there,

Yes it does. The difference with the opening text between the two regions is that the Region 2 has on screen (I preseume Japanese) text, with player generated English subs, while the Region 3 disc has both Cantonese(?) and English text side by side 'burnt in' on the film itself.

Aside from this slight difference with the opening text, the discs use identical cuts of the film.

Just thought I'd point out that there is no such thing as Cantonese text. There are, in modern usage, two types of Chinese texts, simplified and traditional. But however it is spoken (Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka or any dialect), the text remains the same - Chinese.

I'm still waiting for the extended version. *taps foot*
I would love to see the extended version myself but I'm pretty happy with the theatrical cut as well and never did sink in money purchasing any of the earlier DVD releases from China, HK or Korea so I made the plunge and purchased the R2J. Its pricier but for such a visually attractive movie, I think its well worth it. It will, of course, be a different proposition if you'd already purchased an earlier DVD release (which were by all accounts, good, just not as good as the R2J) or if you didn't like the movie.
