Philips 724 multi-region help needed

Philips 724 multi-region help needed
I have a Philips 724 DVD player, and I used the remote hack to play an R2 PAL DVD on my 4:3 NTSC TV set. The DVD is anamorphic, and the playback appears slightly squished.
I've been reading the thread on the 727, and that one appears to be able to handle anamorphic DVD playback in the correct aspect ratio.
Does anyone here know if my 724 will play anamorphic PAL DVD's correctly, or should I just upgrade to the 727?
Any help is much appreciated!

I can only confirm that Philips 727 does play anamorphic dvd's in the correct aspect ratio, for 724 you might want to check
