Peace Hotel differences?

I ordered the original Mei Ah version of Peace Hotel from HiViZone, but they sent me the newer remastered version. I read that the original is a longer cut. Should I try to exchange the remaster for the original or just keep what I got? I've never seen any version of the movie so don't know what I'd be missing...

Oh, your're bringing up a painful memory. The remastered anamorphic version has a PIVOTAL, CRUCIAL action scene removed. I had read a rumor on the web that the new version had the hotel gunfight scene cut out, but I thought "no, that must be a mistake, there's no way they could remove that scene". Sure enough, it was removed from this new version. I saw this on the big screen, and I had the Tai seng VHS, and in those cuts, as Chow and Cecilia Yip are dancing, the gang breaks into the hotel. Chow goes upstairs, opens up a trunk and pulls out a submachine gun---he takes out half the gang, and then slides down a ladder from the second to the first floor, shooting the whole way. THEN he goes outside, grabs the sword and starts swordfighting. In this new version, they just skip the gunfight and go right to the swordfight. And also, although a lot of people got shot, it was very stylized, and CERTAINLY not gory---nothing as graphic as The Killer or Hard Boiled----I have no idea why they decided to cut that out, but it ruined the movie for me. There's not a lot of action in the movie anyways, and that was a crucial scene, IMO.

Is the movie still worth buying the dvd even though it's cut?
