Apocalypse Now Redux - which version or should i wait?

I'm shopping for a version of the Coppola classic. I went to dvdcompare.net and it said the R1 was the one to get, but that one seems barebones.

Is there a deluxe or special edition forthcoming?

The R2 (France) 2-disc version is a good one to get. It's been available over here since early 2002:

Is the French R2 version widescreen, 'cause on the Amazon.fr site it states the aspect ratio as 1.33? that can't be right, can it?
