HKFlix: any region 0?
can anyone verify if HKFlix offers any region-free or region 0 dvds?
if so, can you recommend any good ones? action, horror, suspense, martial arts would all be good genres...
thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the majority of Hong Kong DVDs (of HK films) offered would be R0.

If you're just getting into HK movies, spend some time with this thread:

Infernal Affairs
Chinese Ghost Story (Fantasy)
Hard Boiled (Action)
The Mission (great movie, poor dvd) (Drama)
A Chinese Odyssey, Part I & 2 (Fantasy, comedy)
Days Of Being Wild (Drama)
God of Cookery (Comedy)
Versus (Action, Horror, Gore - pick up the R1)
Little bit of every genre above. There is really a lot to explore in asian cinema. Everyone's tastes aree different. I recomend sampling then trying other dvds from there.

Some of my favourites (alot of these were some of the first HK films I saw and got me hooked):
Bride with White Hair (fantasy)
Chinese Ghost Story (fantasy/horror)
Fong Sai Yuk (martial arts)
Heroic Trio (superhero/fantasy)
Hard Boiled (action)
Chungking Express (action/romance/drama)
Full Contact (action)
Not sure about the current availabilty of these (except for the last 2 which are readily available as R1 discs). Try to avoid English dubbed versions, which ruin the films IMO.
If I had to choose one to start with, I might pick Bride with White Hair. Beautiful film.

I am getting the R2 HKL release of A Chinese Ghost Story when it comes out on Oct. 27th. I am trading my R0 copy if you are interested.
