I don't understand why anyone would want this pan-scan copy when there are other great sets arriving----I will look into getting the French set.

I also think the French set is the way to go. I just hope I don't miss out on it considering it's limited to 5,000 copies.

Because some of us just want to SEE the movie.

Lions Gate has talked about cutting out an hour from the film, with Von Trier's permission of course. I look forward to seeing the full, uncut film, but it could be some time before it shows up on American screens.

I have the Russian disc coming in the mail now.

I got it today. I was holding out hope it was letterboxed non-anamorphic. The prologue was but then switches to full screen.

There are forced trailers, in Russian, before the film.

You sure? Lions Gate said at Cannes they would be distributing the full version so if this is true it's a change of position. (For what it's worth Lions Gate wouldn't be doing the cutting, the cut version was prepared more or less simultaneously with the original version.)

yeah, but you really want to see it PAN AND SCAN!!! Trier's compositions all chopped off? if you want, you should have saved your money for the French disc....I want to SEE the film too and there has been a lot of films I wanted to SEE over the years, but not an inferior, non-OAR edition...

I'm usually pro-oar no matter what but in this case I don't see oar providing much. This is a 'bottle' show. It was shot in a warehouse, ok so it was a set but it looks like a warehouse. Its all dialogue driven. The PQ is very good though.

and of course I'll still by the oar version when its available. Just don't know if I should wait for the R1 or get the Danish version when its available.

Hmm..........Dvdfr claims that the French version has compulsory French subtitles. But they still list English, French and Danish subtitles (even for the single-disc version) so I suspect they're mistaken. Still it makes me nervous...........

I'm dying to see this film! I've seen the French DVD listed on several sites as having forced subtitles. Since the Korean version has the same extras, I'll probably be picking it up instead. Where is it listed at DVDAsian.com?

I don't see any mention of the disc one commentary track for the Korean version. But I don't read Korean so it could very well be that I just missed it, although running those two links through Babelfish didn't turn up anything. It did, however, show that MOVISTDVD has this listed as a Region 3 release, whereas PapaDVD has it listed as all region. Sounds like some additional clarification is needed.

I've emailed Dawoori Entertainment, the studio behind the disc. I asked if it will be a Region 3 or All Region release. I'll post when I get a reply.

I got a reply from the director of multimedia at Dawoori Entertainment. He said that the DOGVILLE DVD will be released on October 17 and it WILL be an All Region disc.

That's great, bjackson!

Anyone have any sites which will sell the all region Dogville disc? Can't wait to see Lars Von Trier's new masterpiece.

How do you know that if you've not seen it?

"...Can't wait to see Lars Von Trier's new masterpiece."

...methinks the word masterpiece is being bandied around a little too easily these days...

True, true, I am overshooting, but I think Von Trier is one of the best directors in the world right now, and Dogville looks to be another winner. Especially now, he's going into the prime of his career and his new movies are ones we should watch for.

FYI:

Dogville is part 1 in a trilogy. Manderlay & Washington are the two other titles in the trilogy. However, Kidman won´t be reprising her part as Grace... as she said she would in Cannes. Now the rumor has it that Cameron Diaz or Julia Roberts has mentioned to take over. Even Cate Blanchett have been in the talk though she is pregnant with her second child.

von Trier's ouput:

Dogville -not seen yet. Must buy for fans so I'll be buying it.
Breaking The Waves -Great (in all senses) film
Dancer in The Dark -Eh?
The Idiots -Brilliant
Riget -Very good.
Europa -Brilliant
Element of Crime -Unwatchably bad.

Taken from www.larsvontrier.com/intro

He's definitely one of only a handful of very exciting directors in Europe.

Walter Sobchak, your link doesn't work. And von Trier has done a few more things than that, most notably Medea. I thought Europa/Zentropa was incredibly boring and Dancer in the Dark is one of the best films I've ever seen. I'm also eagerly awaiting Dogville despite my distaste for Kidman.

Cheers!
