About Brazilian DVD HENRY FOOL
Hi !
Here's a link to a Brazilina store that carries that DVD you mentioned.
What exactly do you need to know anout the DVD ?
The system color is NTSC, the region is 4
It's fullscreen and has subtitles in English as well as in Portuguese. It's in the original sound.
Hope to have helped.
Ah, the price R$ 38.90 is more or less US $ 13.00
If I can help in any other way please feel free to contact me:

when are we going to get a decent OAR release of this great film? it is very disheartening...there was an Asian release but that was also 4:3...blah.

Regarding the OARs of Hartley's films...
The WS laserdiscs of Simple Men & Amatuer said they were 1.66, though there were just barely letterbox bars on them (especially Amatuer. It's almost full frame and definitely not 1.66).
Judging by the great composition of Hartley's shots in full frame, I would venture a guess that he shoots open matte (1.33 or 1.37), and the image gets cropped for theatrical release (Kubrick did this, too). Just a theory...
BTW, I have the Asian DVD of Henry Fool, and besides some nasty compression artifacts, it's an improvement over my old VHS. Haven't heard about Columbia/Tri-Star's R1, but I sure hope it's true!
Can anyone comment on the image quality of this Brazillian version versus the Asian release?
