Is this better than the online stores?

I started buying Asian DVDs earlier this year and have found that they are not cheap (compare to CH of course). Lately, I discovered Ebay, and have found that I could have gotten some of the Asian DVDs I have now a little bit cheaper.

For example, I just got "The Eye" from CD-WOW.NET for about $12, only to discover that I could have gotten it brand new
for $10 shipped from Ebay...

And my order of "Double Vision" just shipped from dvdshelf on May 27th for around $22. But I just found that I could get it on Ebay, shipped from HK for around $15...

Here, I found this person selling Battle Royale Director's Cut Korean Edition...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2299

I can buy it for $23 shipped. A pretty good price I think, consider most etailers sells it for around $23 and you have to add shipping on top of that.

What do you think?

If you could put up with the "risk" factor Ebay often offers then go for it. I'd rather pay 2$ more but have a legit product (cd-wow by the way are top notch in my book).

It is all about choice I guess......

Can you say bootleg?! Don't know about the particular link you mentioined, but do a quick search here or elsewhere for "Stiller" or Stiller66 or whatever ...
"Factory sealed" can mean it is shrink-wrapped by the bootlegger ...

OK, I just did that search I recommended to you & turned out that it does not give any relevant hits ... check this thread for some general ebay advice: http://pub127.ezboard.com/fhongkongd...icID=734.topic

And remember: if it is too good to be true, it might not be true after all .

pay close attention to the prices that DVDShelf has. Their price (before shipping) is fairly close, say within 5%, to the street price in HK's Mongkok district, which is the lowest anywhere in the world for DVDs from HK. If you find the price lower on Ebay, I can pretty much tell you with 99% certainty that it is a bootleg or stolen merchandise. Make sure you compare apples with apples, HK retailers sell DVDs distributed in HK. DVDs distributed from China will be cheaper, street prices are around $35 RMB (around $4US).

And even if the price is higher, the chances are still good that it is a bootleg. Unless it is a hard-to-find item, I would stick to places like DDDHouse or DVDShelf.

HK DVDs not cheap?

I do not even understand this thread. I have been able to get some INCREDIBLE HK DVDs (legit) from DDD house from $7 to $13 USD.. This is for NEW stuff... cheaper than PVDs at BBV....

This is too expensive? Am I missing something????

What you don't understand is that DVDs in HK, especially the ones for Chinese movies are usually very cheap. Street price for the newly released DVDs are usually in the HKD 69-89 range ($9 to $12). Then if there is a huge demand for this DVD, the price go up. Then after a while, it comes down again, sometimes to HKD 35 ($4.7) range.

A big chunk of what we pay for DVDs from HK are usually shipping costs. I recently got 2 DVDs from HK for HKD 70 ( $9.3 ), but I have to pay HKD 50 ($6.7) for shipping

However, I am not complaining about the prices of HK DVDs, but rather Korean DVDs. More often then not, I have to spend up to $29 for them. Korean e-tailers in Korea, such as paradvd, only ships EMS, while many Korean e-tailers in US charge a bundle for Korean DVDs. I just wish that there were a cheaper way to get them.

Check to see if the title you're interested in is available from a HK e-tailer. For example, DDDHouse offers about 80 Korean titles on DVDs. Many for as low as 40 HKD (5.12 USD). Additionally, the shipping is reasonable from HK. My last order of 10 DVDs from DDDHouse cost just 170 HKD to ship (21.80 USD). Not a bad way to avoid the Ebay bootleggers.

Just be careful, the quality of most of the HK versions of Korean films suffer in comparison to the Korean editions. The prices of Korean dvds is steeper than for HK dvds but the quality is far better in most cases and you're often paying for those extras, even if you don't want them. The HK versions might be full screen too, so be sure to check that.

^Agreed. Before buying just about any DVD it's worth the time to do the comparison research. I use http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/

You can't get much cheaper than DDDHouse or HiViDVD. I would say most titles are under $10, and Universe DVDs are all around the $5 range.
