Flight Of The Navigator (R2)

Hi, i am a new member on here so not sure if this has been posted before but according to this:

http://www.zetaminor.com/news_pages/news_05_03.htm

Flight Of The Navigator is set for release in the uk on August 11th, with an RRP of £9.99.

So if you have a multi region player you might want to think about this rather than paying the inflated prices for the VHS on ebay.

I see this one making a very fast trip to International DVD Talk. Sounds good though.

R2 UK release?

I just have bought this double DVD pack:

Short Circuit / Flight Of The Navigator [1986]

http://www.itl.rtu.lv/agris/dvd/cove...henav_b500.jpg

watched the "Flight Of The Navigator" and found the quality of both the video and audio very dissapointing. Especially, having read reviews like "this movies has never looked so good" (like here: http://blogcritics.org/archives/2004/06/05/035430.php ), I am not happy with it at all. :-(

The question is - am I really blind OR this UK release is really THAT bad?

And is the U.S. really much better as the screen shots look (to me, at least) in the review on this web-site?

I haven't seen the R2, but the new R1 release is quite good, at least on my 27" TV. I was quite pleased with the pcture quality, and very happy to toss my old VHS tape.

Well, check out the screen shots from mine:

(don't bother about the language)

On the left those are screen shots from the DVD Talk review, and the right there are screen shots made by myself from my R2 disc.

P.s. Click on my shots to see the them in full size!

Looks like terrible quality for the R2 release, but are the review screenshots treated in any way. (Contrast etc?)

I think that R1 version had been re-mastered. All the reviews I read (about R1), they tell that video is quite good, maybe more grain (due to the age of material), but "you won't get it much better".

R2 (UK) seems to be completely untouched! Neither video nor sound. I suggest to avoid it.
