I, Claudius (UK) ?

Has anybody seen the UK release of "I, Claudius"? In particular, I am interested to know how it compares to the Image US release from a couple of years ago.

I've seen both and in my opinion there is no difference in video quality.

Unfortunately.

I was expecting the PAL version to be better, but it must be the limitation of the source material.

Extras are a bit different on each version.

R2 has a 70 minute documentary, The Epic that never was" (AS does R1)
I Claudius a Television Epic, featuring exclusive interviews with the director (not on R1, I think, I've sold it so can't do a direct comparison)
Alternative Scenes

Also the R2 packaging is pretty crappy IMO

5 single sided dual layer DVDs each in a separate cardboard sleeve enclosed in a cardboard box.

The R1 has 3 double sided dual layer DVDs in a triple keep case.

Thanks for your reply.

My understanding is that the R2 discs at least have English subtitles, which the R1 release does not have. Is that correct?

Fellow Romans,

I've seen both - and there is a **vast** difference in picture quality! Even my wife imnediately noticed!

The Region 2 is far superior!!

Surprisingly, I can't find a review(!) but all the talk on various message boards on its original release was that it put a short sword into the groin of the R1 equivalent.

Extras:
'The Epic That Never Was' documentary (70 mins).
'I Claudius A Television Epic' featuring interviews with cast and director.
Alternative scenes.
Family tree.
Subtitles: English for the hearing impaired

Yours Empirically,
Lik.
