Lone Wolf and Cub dvd by AnimEigo?

Anyone have the Sword of Vengeance dvd by AnimEigo? I was just wondering if the film quality is better than the UK version.

I don't have the UK version but the new Animeigo release has really nice picture especially compared to the Shogun Assassin DVD. It's probably the best the movie has ever looked. The subs are excellent too.

Could you, by any chance, post some screen caps?

Damn, looks like I'll be buying the AnimEigo releases instead of the UK ones. Thanks LeRoy!

Just got done watching this disc. Looks great! I was a little worried because the trailer, althought 16:9, is very faded and has a ton o' edge enhancement. But the picture ended up looking fantastic. Colors are nicely saturated and only a smidge of EE in certain scenes. The subs are fantastic. The transer is clearly in the Criterion league. Not a lot of extras but the 26 pages of liner notes, also duplicated on the DVD, are very informative.

I can't wait to see Yojimbo meets Zaitochi.

Highly recommended.

is there plenty of swordplay action in Zatoichi meets Yojimbo or does it focus more on the story?

It focuses more on the story. There's a lot of humor and funny dialogue but the fights are probably the most violent and bloody I've seen in a Zatoichi movie.

But when are these movies getting released on regular 'finer' stores? I just finished reading the review for Sword Of Vengeance here on dvdtalk, and I'm all excited, my only knowledge of this set is the Hack_Job Shogun Assassin(which IMO also kicked a**)

Yeah!

Some of the sites are preorders and others say the dvds are in stock! The low price frome Deep Discount is worth the wait for me though!

I wonder why Deep Discount doesn't have Sword of Vengeance though? One site says it is due 11/25 and other have it in stock. DDD doesn't have it at all but has River Styx. Maybe I'll wait a while longer for that one.

My only complaint would be with the quality of the audio tracks. They are very shrill and hissy. I wish they would have been given a bit of restoration treatment as the picture is fantastic. Mild disappointment.

I broke down and got Sword of Vengeance from Overstock since DVDSoon's release date was a not-so-soon 11/25. It cost about $4 more but I was willing to shell it out to have the disk now. Shipping was quick and I've got it in my grubby little hands! I love it!
