DDDHouse says the dts version is 2-Disc. They have a pre-order up for it now.

(But when is the Director's Cut coming out? )

No!!! The All-Region Single-disc HERO is no longer stocked at DDDHOUSE!!! Just when my big order from them with my Debit Mastercard gets rejected (!?!?) they no longer stock the single DVD I want the most. NOT a good day!

Is the Edko version really bad? I haven't heard much about this, maybe because it hasn't been released. The specs look incredible.

Can anyone with the VCD tell me if the original language audio track is encoded for DD 5.1? Also, are the subtitles burned in or is it selectable? Thx.

The VCD standard is only stereo sound and no selectable subtitles. So you either get no subtitles or burned in subs. So in this case, they're burned in.

The VCD has both english and chinese subs burned in. Chinese on top and english on bottom. I had no problem reading the subs with this arrangement. As for the sound I thought it sounded really good for a 2.0 sound on a VCD.

My Hero and Tampopo DVDs came in today. I didn't get a chance to watch it yet but boy is the cover cheap. I think they used a color copier machine for the cover.

Btw if anyone is looking for the limited edition of Hero from mainland China, av89.com is selling the limited edition DVD of Hero for 25.89 by special order only. I sent them an email asking them about it and this is the response I got. It beats paying the ridiculous prices on ebay! Hope it helps.

"Thanks for your email.

As we are not planning to sell the limited version publicly, we will not put it onto our website. So if you do want us to locate one for you, please click here to order the Hero DVD. When you check out, please enter"change the Hero DVD to the limited version" into the "comment" column. After receiving your order, we will change the item to limited version on your part and adjust the cost correspondingly. The price for the limited version is US$25.89.

If there is anything else I can do for you, please feel free to contact us.

Best regards,
Jeff Yan

The price at DVDasian is a bit pricey... now av89.com actually decided to carry the Limited Edition Hero DVD. It's 25.89 and if you're in the US then you can use HK air shipping for $2.99. Less than $30 dollars for this set is not too bad considering everyone else on ebay and otherwise are selling it for at least $50 including the shipping. Here's a direct link to the item on their site. http://www.av89.com/item.asp?id=cndvd73452

okay, now I am completely confused. I have two on order, one from DDDHouse and another from ADV, and a preorder from AV89 for the extended edition. I feel like a kid patiently waiting for the end of the day, rushing home to see what came in the mail.

Wow so many editions to choose from! On the bright side, at least they're all coming out now, within the span of a month or two, and not over the course of a decade like some OTHER movies....cough...T2!..cough.

http://www.av89.com/item.asp?id=cndvd73452

That's the link from ENOQUE's previous post. If you look in the middle of the page there are links to av89.com's ALTERNATIVE editions, including the EXTENDED VERSION that most of us have been waiting for. edit: not available yet, looks to be a pre-order ("Early April") Unfortunately from the (accurate?) dvd description, it indicates that the extended version is DVD-9 (good!), 120 min. running time (good!), and 5.1 Digital Surround (not bad!). The theatrical version on the other 2 or 3 dvd editions have been 98/99 min. So far the only release with the DTS track is that expensive collectors set, which isn't the extended edition.

I've held out on the other editions waiting for this extended edition, and although there is no DTS track, it still looks like a great dvd.

If anyone can predict an EXTENDED and DTS version with ALL-REGION coding...let me know.

I predict that if by some miracle this movie actually wins an Oscar (highly unlikely considering its treatment by Miramass) that you will see one helluva special edition about 6 months later.

Not unless they move up the theatrical release date first though.

And you're right, the odds are not with Hero for an Oscar.

LTD

Lots of reports of scratched up discs with the limited sets. The discs aren't secured properly in the boxes....for that price I think I'll build my own box...

BTW Jeff at av89 said that the distributor mentioned this is not a limited edition. Either they're misinformed or someone lied to sell their DVDs LoL. I still like the packaging though. So I'll be getting it anyway.

For those of you who are interest in a higher quality transfer of the movie, look no further than the just released R3 Hong Kong edition. In here, http://avbuzz.htfriends.net/so/hkhero/hkhero.htm, it basically says that the R3 HK version has the best packaging, video and audio performance. It has DD 5.1 EX and Dts 6.1-es!!! With the movie on Disc 1 (DVD-9), and the special features on Disc 2 (DVD-5). This is the version to have (perhaps other than maybe the yet to be released R3 HK Extended Edition)

I pre-ordered the R3 HK version because I think the price is obsurd for R6 Hero releases, no matter which version.
The first DVD-5 version sells for 13 RMB, or about $1.57 in China, and people here are paying up to $20 to get it!!!
The second DVD-9 version sells for 28 RMB, or about $3.38 in China, and people here are paying up to $25 to get it!!!
The third collector's edition sells for 108 RMB. or about $13.04 in China, and people here are paying up to $70 to get it!!!

The HK edition is selling for HKD 95 or about $12.18 in Hong Kong. I preordered it from CD-WOW.NET for 15.95

I believe that HK edition is the one to get if you do not want to get ripped off.

Anyone know if there's going to be a version of the Hero DVD with a Cantonese audio track?
