No, they're not boots. HK discs usually aren't of the same quality of a good R1 disc. Most often you don't have a better option though. Actually, I'm not sure what he's talking about. order without hesitation.

HK DVDs used to be of pretty low quality, but their quality has become top notch in recent years - old Mei Ah discs were terrible, but the ones they've been releasing lately have been outstanding. This forum is a good resource to find out which discs to get and which to avoid.

Take note that most of the HK DVDs do not have the special features as included in R1 US movies. Normally, it is barebone DVD. But if you are concerned about HK movies, I think that DDDhouse is a good source.
In fact, I have ordered from DVDshelf also. Generally, their price is a little cheaper than DDDhouse. But you need to buy several pcs to justifiy the postage/courier charge as mentioned above.
Last time, I ordered from DVDshelf, but some DVD fell out from the holder and have some scratches as they only put the DVD in the brown envelope without tightening its position to avoid it move around. I don't have this problem with DVDshelf. They use the carton to tighten all the DVD together before put into the brown envelope. They can declare the DVD as gift and use personal address on the parcel, instead of their company address.
So, I can avoid to pay the custom duty.
But it seems to me that DVDshelf have more choices of DVD compared with DVDhouse. So, it is still your decision to try which one or both.

It should refer to DDDhouse, not DVDshelf.
