Will amazon.com open any more international stores?

Specifically, I am hoping for them to open amazon.au in Australia. I know there are online stores, but to have a good amazon store in region four would be great. Does anybody know?

I'm kind of surprised there isn't an Amazon Mexico yet. The Spanish market is huge.

I wouldn't shop there myself, but yeah, that is certainly an untapped market.

There aren't many R4 encoded DVDs for the Mexican Market. Would be rather foolish for Amazon to do business there. How many people from Mexico have internet access and enough DI to make Amazon profitable????

Well, I was inititally interested in knowing if we'd ever see amazon.au, an Australian amazon store that would specialize in region 4 titles. I don't think that the reply posted was in response to that, but coming up with another idea for the question if any more international stores would be opened.

So, Mexico is region one too? As for would they do business? Well, I don't know about internet access in Mexico, but there are a huge number of Hispanics in America who could benefit from such a store. I just wonder if amazon.com opened such a store, would it be based out of Mexico or out of America?

I believe Mexico is Region 4, like I posted above. This is all from memory of course and I've talked to someone in Mexico before about this.

Also, all my posts were in response to Damfino's post

That seems to cover Germany and Austria.

Bah.. why stick to such modest pipe-dreams..

Instead, why not have Amazon seek to abolish that most stupid of inventions - region coding - and introduce Amazon PAL and Amazon NTSC

otoh I'd be pretty chuffed if Amazon and friends saw fit to open up a region 4 store serving the PAL parts of region 4 - New Zealand and that other place..

I know at one time there was actual talks about opening up an Amazon center in Australia, but I think at this time that has been pushed pretty far back. Present international centers include the UK, Germany, France, Japan, and Canada. That serves a pretty broad market. I feel like maybe Australia is too alienated...but I am not sure.

But those two video formats have nothing to do with region coding.

I'm in Australia and I'm guessing Amazon feels that the Australian market just isn't big enough... plus, we are very alienated. Australians like to think of themselves as big in technology, but we always seem to get things half a year later than the rest of the world - pretty sad if you ask me.

According to the map above, New Zealand does not exist... but apparently there is someone located in Papua New Guinea that owns a DVD player.

Personally I'm waiting for either Amazon Tanzania or Amazon United Arab Emirates. Amazan Cuba and Amazon Chad would be nice too.

I never said they did.. Rather I was suggesting, albeit in jest, that the formats would make much better dividing lines than the current region.

(consider the current "region 2", which includes both NTSC and PAL countries.. or region 4, which likewise has a mix of PAL and NTSC)
