On DVDCOMPARE.COM , they state that one version is better than the other on the following DVD's:

Do you agree and why? Where would be the best place to buy the from?

For the R2 English releases I've had great experiences with Bensonsworld. In fact, I have the Plan 9 release you listed and liked it a lot. For R4 I've used ezydvd with great success. No experience with R2 Japan though unfortunately. Hope this helps.
