Korean DVD stores in NYC?

I saw some mention about Korean DVD stores in the 32nd Street area, so I went to have a look.

I only found two stores -- there's a tiny one on 32nd (south side) close to 5th Avenue -- not too great a selection, and pricy.

Further up the block (on the north side) is a larger store, but mostly rentals.

Are there any other stores in the area? Perhaps on an upper floor in one of the buildings?

Have been searching for 'Turning Gate' (which I saw at the NYFF last night and is AMAZING) but neither of those two had it.

Thanks.

Well, I actually work on that block, and haven't found anything worth while. I've asked some of my Korean neighbors in my office building, but they didn't know of any DVD sellers. (Boy, am I gonna feel stupid if someone discovers a great place in the area!)

Same boat as all you guys, I was just there last weekend looking for some dvds, but instead walked away empty handed, but filled to the brim with spicy chicken from the noodle bar there. That one little shop was asking for $35 for No Blood No Tears, I'm like HUH????

Poker here I come. Please if anyone knows something, like a store in the basement or upstairs, I'd be happy to learn. Nothing beats holding a new release in your hand, kind of like my HK connection @ chinatown.

I shop at Poker Industries for my Korean DVDs that I need in my hand. I tried YesAsia for the 2002 World Cup Team Korea highlights, but I'm very disatisfied. Placed the order on Sept. 28th, it didn't say out of stock, or back ordered, but it's been searching for suppliers since then. Almost 2 weeks and no DVD. I emailed them, got a reply back on the 7th telling me it's shipping in a few days. Still nothing.

I'll stick with Poker, as it's right by my school, or I'll try krdvd.com next.

In lieu of good stores. . .

I don't know if this has been discussed here, but I came across dvdasian.com, which seems to be a great site. Titles broken down by country, and they carry discs from all regions. They have written fairly lengthy reviews for almost all titles, and often include screenshots from various scenes. Their prices seem to be alright, but I haven't ordered Korean movies over the web before. I placed an order on Thursday night (Turning Gate!!) and I got an email Friday saying it was shipped.

Hope it's a legit place -- will write review when (if?) I receive the DVD.

^ Did you order the LE with the book, or the 2-disc set by itself?

I ordered 2 disc set without the book for $26.95. I didn't think I would read the book. Does anyone know what the book contains?

Got Turning Gate from dvdasian yesterday -- three days. Not bad at all. Great prices as well. I recommend them highly.

Had my order canceld from yesasia, and placed the same thing with dvdasian on Friday. Said in-stock and ready to ship. I email them and they tell me (like yesasia did) that my order is in transit and will ship in 1-2 days. Yesasia lied to me and said that it would ship within a few days, only to have me have to email them twice and then they tell me it's out of stock. Hopefully dvdasian doesn't do the same thing.

Where is yesasian located, I'm in NJ and I usually order from poker, but the lack of coupons and higher than usual prices on the korean movies is holding me back. Dvdasian has some pretty good deals, but how long does it take and where do they ship from?

yesasia is located in california..i've had good luck with them, but have heard others with similar experiences being delayed forever..

i recently ordered a music video dvd and cd from www.annyoung.com and was extremely pleased with how quickly it came (like 2 days, again from california, i think (i'm in MA)) and the price..they don't have a ton of movies, but you might find something there.

skokefoe.

I am in NYC. I've ordered twice from DvdAsian. Both times it only took 3-4 days via USPS Priority mail.

dvdasian is great. but back to the original question. the stores you found around 32nd st are basically it. you still might want to check out KIMīs VIDEO at St.Marks Place. they have a HUGE selection of korean and other asian dvdīs. also their prices are better than those of the 32nd stores. whoever is looking for soundtracks should check out the 32nd area between park ave and 5th ave though. selection on those is way bigger than on dvds...

DVDTalk Coupon section shows a 10%-off coupon for Poker: DVDTK10. Does it not work?

KIM's is currently having a sale - all DVDs are 25% off MSRP - not the greatest discount, but then again, they carry so many titles that rarely show up at any kind of sale price.
