Moonbase 3 + other "classic" British tv sci-fi series....
Wasn't sure whether to place this under International or television, but since its only available in the UK, lets go with INternational. Saw this DVD while I was in the UK recently. NEver heard of the series. Has anyone seen it before? I ddint pick it up because its still much cheaper to buy online than in stores.
Interested to hear what people think of the series.
Here are a few links.

I'd love some reviews too. I was actually interested enough to order this sight-unseen... but unfortunately, it is in an order at amazon.uk that includes a title that keeps getting delayed. So, it probably won't ship for a while.

I just finished watching the entire series and loved every minute. I’ve seen plenty of reviews where people accuse the show of being boring but I’d imagine they’re a little non-plussed by the more realistic take on space exploration that the show offers. I’d never seen it before but had the theme tune on an old BBC LP and always wondered what kind of show would go with such a fantastic piece of music. It’s veryBritish and has some of the flavour of early seventies Dr Who in terms of set design and special effects but as it’s only a six episode run in it’s entirety it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. The discs themselves are processed a little too heavily for my tastes with quite a lot of DVNR making them look a little soft and lacking in detail but at the same time being perfectly watchable. Sound is standard mono as you’d expect and is clear and distinct.
There’s no doubt that the main attraction of this and shows like it is the nostalgia factor and this show has it in spades. There’s something so enjoyable about watching TV of this period that even if the show itself were poor (which it isn’t) it would still pass the time amiably enough. I’d recommend a purchase and also look out for the same company releasing another semi-forgotten UK telefantasy gem, Children of the Stones next month.

Loads of mostly ITV "weird" kids shows along those lines that I'd love to see again; some only half-remembered such as Ace of Wands which is as deserving of a remake as was The Tomorrow People.

You can see one or two clips on Youtube. Check out the opening titles below which were pretty spooky - as was often the case for kids shows in the 70s.

The reason why Moonbase 3 looks "overprocessed" is because the original PAL masters no longer exist. The series was a co-production between the BBC and 20th Century Fox, and while the former wiped all their copies, the latter kept them; indeed, it came as a surprise when the US Sci-Fi Channel started showing the series around 15 years ago as no copies of it were known to exist up until then! Fox's tapes are in NTSC, and so the DVDs have been standards converted back to PAL, and if you're in the USA you're most likely watching them as a PAL-to-NTSC-to-PAL-to-NTSC conversion... (They still look pretty decent to my eyes, even after all the standards conversions.)
