PAL question
I just got my Futurama box set from the UK yesterday. I played part of one episode and noticed how there is a 4%? speed increase in the convertion. It was actually pretty annoying. When these shows are broadcast in the UK and viewed through a PAL tv are the episodes spead up? I'm viewing these discs through a Daewoo 5700, does a Malata convert the PAL 'better' so there is no increase in speed?

PAL always runs 4% faster than NTSC. That's just the nature of the two video standards, and there is nothing that can be done to slow the speed down.
People living in PAL countries are no doubt used to it, and many programs are specially mastered for PAL to have their soundtrack pitch-adjusted to compensate for the difference. Even without pitch correction, the speed-up is rarely noticeable except occasionally during music.

Just to add to the above - PAL is obviously only 4% faster when dealing with 24fps based material, which up until the advent of 24p digital cameras, was always film... there are exceptions though - some older European films were actually shot 25fps.

I had never heard about this speed up being noticable. I guess i'm just too familar with Futurama. Its really a nice box set so i'll keep it til a NTSC one comes out (if ever).
