The big list of non-US retailers

So, I'm looking for a couple of online retailers down in Austrailia / NZ and the like. Any suggestions on reliable folks?

When you title a thread "Big List of Non-US Retailers" - you better have the list already. If you want to compile a list - your title should be "Help me compile a list of non-us retailers" or something. I'd do it, but I already maintain enough community help and discussion threads.

Please be patient with me. It's a work-in-progress.

Here are some of the things that I am trying to find the time to implement :
  • information on the retailers such as VAT, shipping costs, feedback, ...
[ so far I only have retailerinfo for five Australian retailers
Just click on "Australia", then click on "RETAILERINFO"
beside the name of the retailer in which you are interested ]

(Hopefully) This will continue to evolve (whenever I am able to find the time)
    in form and function.
Let me know if you have any positive and/or negative constructive criticism/feedback,
or if you find any missing retailers, forums, review/news-sites,
    and any important miscellaneous info.

    Thanks !

  • For the Australian retailers that offer shipping by DHL (http://www.dhl.com.au/), here is a brief explanation of it as offered by http://store.yahoo.com/dvdcrave-au/info.html#Ordering :
"When choosing DHL (http://www.dhl.com.au/) there are several advantages. Obviously the major benefit is the speed of the delivery which is 2 Days to most Capital Cities all around the world. Also the tracking system which allows you to see exactly where you order is in transit, and when to expect it. With DHL (http://www.dhl.com.au/), a signiture and name is required when being delivered, so this will also prevent any lost and stolen parcels. From a safety and security point of view, DVD Crave recommend you chose DHL International Express as you delivery option."

That's beautiful! I can either incorporate it into the HK FAQ that appears at the top of this forum so this info remains sticky and I can format it so it looks nice and organized (not that you didn't do a good job of that already), or else you should start your own thread with a similar title to this one and make this information the first post - but be prepared to edit the thread now and then to add or remove some items and to change the formatting (like bold the categories and different colors or to add pictures of flags or whatever)... I'm sure if you started a thread with this info, Benedict would have no choice but to make it sticky. Good list though. You might want to incorporate some of Geoff's affiliate links if he has any - I know he has something with hkflix and homay and a few others. Let me know if you need me to help you format it.

An alternative to a sticky post would be for me to include a link in the HK FAQ in the section I have for Asian retailers... many of which are absent from your list.

I'd also add descriptions to each to give a summary of what someone can expect. Another thing would be to include a section for those who want to order R1 DVDs from US retailers but who live overseas.

If you don't mind maintaining such a post, I'll take your list and format it so it looks nice and email it to you - then you'll have to update as they come. As long as you know how to cut and paste, you'll be ok. All it'll take is the willingness to keep an eye on your thread and update it once in awhile as needed. Let me know if you want to do this.

    reliable italian sites

you can add to this list
    - www.genesi.com
the trouble with italian sites is they haven't english pages, however you can always e-mail them.

Can you add play247.com to your list. They sell region 2 and 1 based in uk and ship anywhere in Europe. I did a search and couldn't find them on your list.

Assuming AutumnNights hasn't already done so, there have been a number of recommendations etc in various earlier threads which could nicely be incorporated here. I agree that it would be worthwhile establishing some form of "one and only" thread perhaps later this month.

    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=146549
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=136012
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=148867
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=139034
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=140438
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=142387
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=131538
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=132535
    http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=136760

A general tidy-up and rethink of how all the useful information in various sticky &/or "one and only" threads is to be presented may also be on the cards. One possibility is to have a master list of essential threads and guidelines along the lines established by codefree on the main forum a while ago.

Is there any way that we could add some info to each retailers listing? Stuff like % off retail (general policy), VAT subtracted, shipping costs, etc.

I know that one could get carried away with this type of stuff but a little info could save a lot of us a LOT of time.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

for those shopping for Japanese DVDs.. avoid SUZUMA.com at ALL COSTS. unless you like waiting months/years for your DVDs to ship. cdjapan.co.jp is probably the most reliable and the prices are slightly cheaper.

check out this thread for more info:

Seperate section for Japanese DVDs is in order and also we should include even the bad etailers and provide descriptions as such. I've heard about Sazuma but some people might still want to order from them anyway.

    Correction for Autumn:

SAZUMA is located in Austria. They use this really incompetent person in the States to forward shipments within the U.S. a few years after your order is placed.

Oh - another one for your lists: www.scarecrow.com. They are based out of the Seattle area, and deal will all kinds of various imports. UK, HK - all over the globe. They dont do a LOT with mail order yet, but they do have some.

I've only dealt with them in person, so I cant attest to how smoothly the mail order aspect runs. However, they are a bunch of movie buffs who care about what they do - so I'd say the outlook looks good, at least.
