Gonin - Tokyo Bullets R2 PAL Release
I finally got around to watching part of the Tokyo Bullets release of Gonin. I read a few negative posts from people and on BNB etc.
I must totally disagree with those reviews. The transfer on this is great. Better than Universe "Battle Royale" and "Brother" R3 Transfers.
The print is clean, and now you can see the detail of the opening alley scene (and actually the make-up on the attacked). It's also brighter and most of all removeable subtitles. I am not saying it's going to win any awards here, but when I start seing detail and accurate fleshtones.. I am sold. I have no complaints with this release and finally happy a decent version has come out.
Although it is not anamorphic, they do include an option for 16:9 subtitles (yeah... don't ask me, I even double checked).
Unlike most people, I also have the Ocean Shores Version, so I popped that in... I knew it was horrible but at the time it was the only one available. It's dark and seems to have been transferred from a VHS. The burned in white type subs are wretching, which is why I've never read them. Utter crap; but a must own.
About 112 minutes. LBX, 2.0 Digital, Trailers, Extensive Biographies and filmographies, and the worthless stills.
I have an extra R2 copy in the trading forum, but that is not influencing this post.

Also, I had to use the Movie or Smart filter (996) for the opening dance scene then switched back to still. I guess it couldn't handle the strobes.

Watched it through Panasonic 36" 4:3 TV, Malata 996N (11/01 Firmware), digital coax, s-video, Pioneer VSX-D509S Receiver, JBL 5.1 speaker set-up. 22 foot Vaulted ceilings
There that should cover it!
