There is a section specifically on international DVDs.

I'm scratching my head as to why you haven't already region cracked your player by chipping or remote hack. It is a common practice in Europe to set the players as all region (everyone I know has).
Have you checked http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk to see whether you can remote hack? Just incase you may not be aware.

That is not to say, of course, that R2 discs aren't great.

Sure would like to talk more about region 2 discs. Besides, lots of stuff available in r2 that isn't in r1, and you get to choose from different releases, though Im still researching the ins and outs of that.

Ditto about the zone freeing, you should look into it.

I find that I prefer getting region 2 TV presentations over r1, for instance, Space 1999. I pefered the r2 versions, so I sold my r1. I got some of each to compair.

That's very interesting. What were the main differences, did you find?

Sorry for the answer delay, I couldnt remember where this question was asked. Mainly with PAL vrs NTSC. I dont know how the conversion looks in the states, but NTSC on a pal tv is grainier (is that a word).

So the PAL version are clearer. Of course depending on the other specs, we'd buy zone 1 on these. I suppose line doublers will help as well so its not really a great concern. But for the space 1999s that I tested, I felt visually the zone 2s worked better.

I didnt actually check to see if the transfers were PAL, but there was a difference. Could also be manufacturing or production differences.

Note also that I had no problem with the zone 1s. I just felt the zone 2s were a tad better and for me at least, more easily obtained. zone 2s are also ahead of the zone 1s. The 2nd season is already released here, or at least partially. I think people in zone 1 are still waiting for season 2.

Wow! Lots of replies! Sorry I haven't been back in a while, but thanks. Actually I do rent a lot of movies, am a customer of http://www.in-movies.com and it's very rare for me to buy a movie without having rented it first. But, of course, you can only rent R2's around here. So far, every DVD I've ever bought that has had identical content to the one I rented beforehand. I believe that tends not to be the case in Australia ....

Oh, and you don't have to worry about being shortchanged with pan & scan versions in the UK as well.

yangshouwen > you may find a few posts by me at the dvd reviewer forum too, the "squidgy" there is also me, but to be honest I prefer the vbulletin forum format.
