I am considering buying the uncut Italian DVD of Malena, but I was told it is a PAL DVD and was wondering if it would work on my NTSC TV (my dvd player will play either PAL or NTSC) Just wanted to see if anyone knew before I dropped $60 for the special edition pack

Any news on a UNCUT release of this film, w/ English subtitles?

There is one at blackstar.co.uk, but also looks cut. They use the same cover as the US release. 88min.

The R2J uncut version will be released on 8/23 but probably Japanese subs will be included.

Maybe we can wait for Korean uncut or something.

Yup the Korean one seems the one to wait for, I hope someone reviews it soon so we can find out if its uncut! and not all the nude bits blurred out like some korean films. that would be an unbelebable insult. and its very cheap too.

Language Support just means it's able to present asian fonts on screen instead of "can't recognize character" boxes. It doesn't translate the language.

I have emailed Paradvd.com several times about the extent of censorship done on this DVD. I was told that it is paint-brushed with C.G. like Irreversible. Since this is perhaps the only uncut version available with English Subtitles, I ordered it. I already own the Italian 2 disc uncut version and I only saw 2 to 3 scenes with pubic hair ( I assume this is where CG is added) and no male genitals. Afterall, this is not like Irreversible where there would be much more scenes treated with C.G.s

Perhaps those who has Irreversible could verify which parts of the body were painted, and what was done. I hope that it is not done like the "mosaic" in Japanese porn.

In addition, this Korean edition is only $19 something shipped, so I could not resist.

When you get the DVD please let us know not only what is the quality of the video/sound but also how well are the subs done?
The Korean market tends to include English subs on a lot of movies (and though I am pleased with the effort) however at times they tend to simplify the dialog quite a bit.
So, please compare if possible with the Miramax release (the extent of CGI "corrections" is also something I would be interested in.

The Japanese dvd's of Italian or French movies does not always include english subs!Just the native language subs and Japanese.

The Korean version is very likely a direct transfer from the R2 Italian dts 2 disk set. Therefore, Consider how the Koreans have done with European movies, I believe the quality of the video/sound will at least be on-par with, if not better than the R2 Italian version. Also, since the C.G will be present for only about 10 seconds or 2 to 3 scenes ( if only the pubic hair is censored ), the Korean version of Malena is much more desirable than the Korean version of Irreversible.

I figured by buying this version, I will save the $14 I would have to spend on the R1 version to even understand this movie, and also sell the Italian version for $25. With all things considered, the cost of this Korean will only be about $17 for me.

Well, if Malena Uncut is the only DVD you are buying, you would have to pay about 24 Euros for shipping, and the DVD alone cost about $31, so yes, the total is about $60

If the only CG I found on the Korean version is on pubic hair, and the transfer is as good as the R2 Italian version, then yes... I will be selling it.

Holy crap!!!

I just got my Korean Malena Uncut Special Edition from Paradvd. And guess what??? I checked the scene with the boy and Malena in his bedroom, and I saw pubic hair!!! No, not CG, real hair!!! Does it mean that the CG is only done on male genitals?
Since there is no male genitals in this movie, I can almost say that this Korean Special Edition is untouched!!!

As I have suspected, this DVD is a direct transfer from the Italian Uncut version. The packaging is digipak, which is better than the regular Italian Uncut version, which is double Amaray. But the Korean SE has English subtitles!!! The English subtitles are done nicely, too. ( I don't have the R1 version, but I don't think that it is simplified). The price is only less than $20 shipped

The Italian version has a bit rate range of 7 to 9, the Korean has a wider bit rate range of 5 to 10

I will look closely at the other nude scene and report.
But I think I will be selling my Italian Uncut version!!!

would you tell us what is the video quality like? The Italian disc was inferior to the Miramax disc in terms of picture quality, however I am going to buy this release based on the fact that it is uncut......STILL need to have some info on the picture though...

Since I don't have a DVD-ROM, I can't capture scenes. But I believe that the Video is on par with the Italian Version, which I do have. I don't have the R1 version so I can't comment on that.
But I think you know that Korean companies have done quite nice jobs on the Korean release of European DVDs.

The only 3 scenes that CG might be added would be the one with the boy and Malena in his room, and 2 with the boy and the prostitute. I checked all of them and found that none of them are censored . I did not see any male genitals in this movie so I guess there is nothing to censor here. On this Korean release, I saw everything that I saw on the uncut Italian version.

And yes, it has English subtitles, and dts!!!
