Jet Li rerelease - "Legend of the Red Dragon"

According to DVDPRICESEARCH.COM, Columbia/Tri-Star is releasing a Jet Li movie called "Legend Of The Red Dragon" on Feb 12th. I'm not sure what the original title of this movie was, but the description is as follows:

When his wife and entire village are brutally murdered by evil Manchu soldiers, the master warrior Kwun (Jet Li) sets out on a mission of vengeance with the only survivor of the massacre - his son Ting.

For seven years, the two journeys across ancient China on their quest for revenge, always staying one step ahead of the deadly army. But Kwun is forced to face the past when they come across a wealthy benefactor with five young Shaolin masters in his charge who, unbeknownst to Kwun have the detailed map to a priceless treasure trove tattooed on their backs.

It is not long before Manchu officials find out about the maps, and deadly soldiers come after the masters. Now, in an ancient battle that will put Kwun against one of the very soldiers who helped to kill his family, he and Ting will unite with the young masters of Shaolin for a fight to the death. Get ready for an ancient martial arts battle with the worlds' most masterful warriors!

Is it The New Legend of Shaolin?

It's a Wong Jing movie with co-stars Chingmy Yau and Deannie Yp.

Apparently it is the New Legend of Shaolin...?

Found this:
Not to be Confused With: (10/16/01) This is not the Jet Li action film being rereleased in Europe as Red Dragon, which was originally released in 1994, and is known in the USA as New Legend of Shaolin (and yes, it's long been available on video).
-taken from upcomingmovies.com

Or this listing of Jet Li's filmography also shows this info.
Netasia Jet Li homepage

cheers,
Gabe

Yup - that's it - I think we've known about this for awhile. I seem to remember hearing that title before.

I am very disappointed when US companies feel that they need to change the name of movies for domestic home video release.

Agreed, and they're so original too : "The Enforcer", "The Defender"

it's not anamorphic, but the picture is a lot better than the Taiseng crappy version. Removable English/Chinese subs as well. 1.85:1. Can't remember if there were any other extras, probably not.

Nope, no real extras to speak of. The picture was ok, but you could tell the print they used was starting to show it's age. If you like the movie (or Jet Li/wire-fu movies in general) you'll probably like this one. Personally I just enjoyed seeing Jet and the kid from My Father is a Hero do something again (although I guess technically this one was made first). That little kid is always a trip to watch

The HK version is great - the US version will most likely be cut and dubbed and will have a beautiful transfer. I'm sticking with the new Universe DVD. As for Shaolin Soccer - it's not Stephen Chow's funniest, but everyone pretty much agrees it's good and fun to watch. My dad even liked it. I still can't believe I got him to watch a subtitled movie (he's ill and has trouble concentrating and gets headaches and stuff). Shaolin Soccer is basically like Major League or Necessary Roughness but for soccer instead of baseball or football. It's cute and has some great special effects. I think it would be a decent introduction to Stephen Chow - look for the Stephen Chow thread for more suggestions if you end up liking it.

What's the Universe Length?

Universe release has 5.1 Cantonese & 5.1 Mandarin, no english dub, runs 94 minutes, is out now, has a good transfer, and it's under 10 bucks.
