its going to be a pretty low quality player. and i am sure the PAL conversion is the pits, try any player with a mediamatics chip.

AXP 103, my understanding is that directly linking to (serious) open/live ebay auctions is verboten here....

.... please feel free to email if you think otherwise.

Always better, IMO, just to post the make/model rather than the original link.

I asked this same question not too long ago. I didn't get much of a response except for "it probably sucks". Someone else asked before me and got no real response. But those things are cheap, you can get it and let us know for sure if it sucks or not...but for a portable region free dvd player, it sure is cheap. Suspiciously cheap.

I know someone who bought one. It's crap. Money wasted. Nuff said.

DeepRedInferno- I'm not familiar with that chip. Any players off the top of your head with it?

benedict- Sorry about the faux pas. I will remember that in the future.

Aoshi- That's exactly what I'm thinking. I would use it simply on the train from work to watch a tv show to pass time. The price is cheaper than many players on a B&M that don't have the multi region features. If I do buy it, I'll post my opinion.

Matt Stevens- Can you do me a favor and post a few more details. You certainly got your point across, I'm just wondering what kind of problems your friend experienced. Simply writing that it's crap doesn't really help, thanks.

Don't forget to pack a tv if you buy this because it doesn't seem to have a screen!

He said the player was slow to load. That it would crash. That there was pixelization and that many discs would just error. He also said the PAL to NTSC conversion was just like an Apex: Distorted.

He got his money back after having his lawyer call the guy.

I laughed and said he should just eat the $ since he has enough $ to afford a lawyer!

He now owns a Malata N996, like me, and is happy with it, despite the Phantom Menace problems.

AdamGott- Good point!

Matt Stevens- Thanks for the feedback. I'm interested in the Malata, but am torn about spending money on another player ( I already own 2 players, a PS2 and DVD-Rom).

Must have gotten a bad one, cuz mine works great! Granted it is used in my suburban and viewed on 5" lcd's... I did have a chance to try it in the house on my sony big screen and it seemed to work fine. I don't have any pal or other region DVD's to try so I can't address those issues....
