Region codes
Just bought at Pioneer DVC503. The ad that attracted me said it was multi-region, but of course, it is only coded for Region 1 now that I have it. How do I go about getting codes etc., to play other regions? Anyone able to help?

It just so happens I've got the exact same player except mine is regionfree. Have you tried any non-Region 1 DVDs to verify that they don't work? Some regionfree players will have Region 1 listed on them because the retailer itself hacked them so they'd be able to play all regions. In any case, if it is regionfree you'll only be able to play NTSC DVDs as this player does not have a built-in PAL-->NTSC video converter. America, Japan, and Korea in particular are all NTSC format countries. If you want to play DVDs from PAL areas like all of Europe and Australia you'll need to purchase a separate PAL-->NTSC converter (unless of course you have a multi-system TV in which case you will be able to play any DVD with a regionfree DVD player and without a converter). My player has an option to change regions via the remote control. However, it plays all regions no matter what region coding it is set for. So basically if the ad said your player is regionfree you need to manually check that out first. If you find that it's not you need to contact the place where you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

Thanks so much. I haven't yet tried another region DVD, I was going on what the manufacturers operating manual says. I was gunshy from buying another region until I was sure. There's nothing on my remote control to change region, but if it works for you, and it's the same machine, then I don't see a problem. Thanks again, much appreciated.
