Amazon.co.jp closed?

Tried to visit http://www.amazon.co.jp and got a page of Japanese text. No storefront. I ran the page thru babelfish translator and got this:

Please wait for a while.
Very much, there is no excuse, but transitory you have closed.
We reopen promptly, but as for the person who the news of reopening is desired please input E mail address under.

We apologize the fact that it does to apply annoyance deeply.
So... Does this mean closed closed? Or only down for maintenance or what?

Thanks,
Gabe

Amazon.co.jp questions

1. Do they take Amazon US GC's?

2. Have they issued any of their own GC's?

thanks,

Tuan Jim

As far as I know GCs only work in the currency in which they were issued. Someone has talked before about getting an error message because each national site recognises its own format of certificate and will reject anything else.

Purchasing Japanese GCs is another matter. I don't know if they have them but if they do wouldn't you need to know some of the language to use them? (If you do know some of the language then checking out the site should answer the question)

It appears amazon.co.jp does sell GCs, although when you have babelfish translate it. It shows as "Gift ticket". Links for GCs can be found at the bottom center of the page. (In the boxed in area)

cheers,
Gabe
