My first HK order
Hi there
- Iron monkey
- peking opera blues
- as tears go by
today I received these titles - it was my first Hong Kong order - and I'm quite satisfied with DDDHouse service!!
Now I'm planning my next order, I'd like comments
- Bullet in the head
- Days of being wild
- comrades, almost a love story
- city on fire
- once a thief
and suggestions?!

can i ask you when you ordered this? I ordered 35 dvd movies on Oct 16 and got a reply back that it will not be sent untill Oct 22 or 23, im not sure why it takes this long to ship out. I thought if i ordered 35 movies it would take 2 or 3 days.
But City on Fire, Once a Thief, and Bullet in the Head are very hightly recommended.

I usually verify what's in and run with it and save the backordered items for next time.

Also - I'd suggest City On Fire be a rental - it's not very good IMHO. Although I couldn't sit through it, so perhaps it gets better near the end. I, like some others, purchased it wanting to see the parallels between it and Reservoir Dogs and I didn't see ANY similarities. Maybe it's just me though. If you're looking for suggestions - check the Newbie help at the top of this forum for a list of recommends. I didn't come up with the list myself - I based it on suggestions from other people - items most commonly suggested. I haven't even seen all the ones in that list - and I don't really like all the films in that list personally - but those films are all highly recommended and it's certainly a good starting point.

tangno:
order placed on October 16, DVDs received yesterday.
Trigger:
I appreciate your Newbie thread, in fact you're responsible because I bought "Peking opera blues".
However I'm interested to some titles not included in your thread, I hope you or anybody else could give me some advice about the movie and/or DVD editions.
Well, so I need some advice about
- Wild search
- Days of being wild
many thanks

as for Wong Kar Wai I loved "In the mood for love" so I'm curious to watch some other movies he directed, that's why in my first HK order I bought "As tears go by".

As I said - my opinion of City On Fire is not the popular one. It seems to be a well-regarded film. I'll be giving it another chance sometime in the future - but I have plenty of catching up to do with some films from my last few large orders.

Like what others have said, if you like Wong-Kar Wai, then you'll probably like Days of Being Wild. I've seen most of his movies and enjoyed watching DoBW. I have the Mega Star version and it seems okay, although it seems that you shouldn't expect excellent video transfers for WKW movies (all the white specks on the screen make it seem like as if you're actually in the theater or something).
One my best movie scenes are in this one. Without giving up too much, it's the solo dance scene, and of course, the world's best pick-up line to a girl who won't go out with you(it may not work in real life, but it sure as heck is cool).
Oh yeah, stay away from Ocean Shores' version of Chungking Express(only version available) and Fallen Angels. Both have burned-in Ocean Shores' seahorse logo at the beginning of the flicks.
