Memento Aspect Ratio Problem
I just got Memento, Canadian Edition (see: Crap edition) anyway, the movie is supposed to be in 2:35 but when i watched it it was in 1:85, i fiddled around with the options menu of my player and found out that i had my player set to 4:3 instead of 4:3 Letterbox, when i switched it to letterbox i got the full 2:35 picture, but i never had this problem before, i always used 4:3 with every dvd, and never ever had a problem with the aspect ratio, just wondering why this particular one would have a problem?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've heard that the French version of this DVD is also in the incorrect 1.85:1 aspect ratio.
...ahh... the French DVD (on the PATHE label) is anamorphic 2.35:1, with DD 5.1 sound...
...the Belgian DVD (on the BELGA) label has been cropped to anamorphic 1.78:1, but features a dts soundtrack...
...OAR Philistines will accept the reduced-by-c.25% image of the Belgian disc just to have the (perceived 'better') soundtrack...
...serious film lovers will, of course, want to see the whole movie, not just c.75% of it, and for that reason will happily forego the dts soundtrack and accept the (excellent) DD 5.1 soundtrack...

The only thing I can think of is the disc was mistakenly mastered with the flag that enables in-player panning and scanning turned on. This also happened with the first pressing of Criterion's "The Last Temptation of Christ."
The reason I suspect that it was an accident is because, if the studio did it on purpose they would be touting it on the cover as a special feature.

"Just out of curiosity, what is it with you and dts? Every single time I have seen you post lately, it involves dts in some way, and you always seem to make it red. This may be the wrong forum, time, place, etc...I just had to ask
? ? ? ? ?
...ahh... what on earth do you mean? Out of SEVEN (7) posts I entered since 'yesterday', the one concerning Memento is the -> only <- one mentioning dts...
...why do I make dts red?
...because I can, that's why!...
