Universe announced the "official" release date twice already - the 3rd, then the 10th. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that they really do it this time.
Johnny sent me an e-mail saying that all shipments to the U.S. have been grounded until further notice due to the terrorist attacks here so you should also keep that in mind also.

DVD Shaolin Soccer out today
I've got the DVD release of Shaolin soccer today. Here's what on the disc.
Audio: Cantonese - Stereo, DTS, Dolby Digital
Mandarin - Dolby Digital
Subtitles: Removable English, Chinese
Widescreen: 1:85 approx (unsure of anamorphic)
Running time: 112 mins
Region ALL
MAIN MENU: Very short teaser trailer
Chapter select
Original version of the film
Special version (Actually same as original. You can view the extended scenes when a white logo appears on corner of screen. A yellow logo means you can see how they did they special effects. Similar to the white rabbit in The Matrix. Why they didn't integrate the extended scenes into the film is beyond me.)
Special Features:
Star files
Making of (20 mins)
Photo gallery
Outtakes (3 mins)
Special effects section (7 mins)
Picture quality: very good, but noticeable grain in certain areas. Certainly cannot match US DVDs for quality. Maybe due to film stock.
Menu system is a bit annoying at times, but acceptable.

In my AV system (HTPC and 100" CRT projector), the DVD picture quality is very good. I suspect that SiuBo watched the film on a 4:3 screen with down conversion artifacts from the anamorphic DVD.
By the way, there is a statement "Please choose TV Display (mode) at DVD machine before screening" at the DVD back cover. These may be words to look for in future Universe DVDs for confirmation of anamorphic widescreen.I

I did watch the film on a 4:3 TV, so I can't really give you the best opinion of the film's picture (and audio) quality. Those of you who watch it on widescreen TVs, or using component video leads may see a much vivid picture than me.
Anyway, forgot to mention this. The Making Of extra has English and Chinese subs (you can choose which to see).
The extended version lasts around ten minutes longer than the original, and are more or less extended sections of certain scenes involving Stephen Chow and Vicki Zhao.
