FIFTH ELEMENT - DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 edition available ......

.... in Germany. US "SuperBit" release? Not likely. Columbia/TriStar Home Video may not have released all the specs but it's very unlikely that CTHV is using the full potential of DTS. I could rant and rave about STHV and the whole Superbit thing, but I just want to let every forum member who is considering about getting the new "Fifth Element" disc that for $28 bucks you could be getting a whole lot more. CTHV are being total hypocrites about this...."the best in audio and video".... yeah right. What a joke!

I was excited to find this DVD too!
It's a 2 Disc set! Not available in any other regions, and even in R2 it's only sold in Germany. Claims to have 180 mins of extra features!

Disc 1 has German 5.1 EX and 6.1 DTS ES and English 5.1 EX and 6.1 DTS ES.
Disc 2 has 3 making of documentaries, as well as 2 behind the scenes about special effects, german and american trailers, tv spots, something about premiere at Cannes, press conferences, red carpet premiere, MTV Special, biographies, filmographies etc... to the best of my "translation", don't really know German.

Its 50 DMs, which is around 23 US dollars, not too bad, but shipping is another 34 DM so it will cost you 35 bucks to have it shipped to the US, I havent checked on other german sites besides Amazon.de, maybe others have cheaper shipping, here is the link:
http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005NP1Z

I got a question, how is this transfer? I know it's not the same as the one in US, but is it bad or not, I would buy this just for special features, which i hope are in english? But would love to have it instead of the Superbit DTS version, otherwise I'll have to get Suberbit too and just sell my old US barebones one. Anyone owns this?

Luc Besson doesn't want to do extras, and considering the SuperBit release is coming I doubt an R1 special edition would be released any time soon. That being said, I only have a 5.1 setup, and these extras don't really interest me, so I'll be going with the SuperBit edition.

which according to amazon is the 4th of Sept. For some strange reason in other Amazon related news they (amazon.co.uk) had the Farscape Season 2 Box 4 available for purchase three days before it's offical UK street date...go figure?

From a recent review on a german page it is in fact not discrete but matrixed. In the page's forum someone quoted the manufacturer that they "set the flag wrongly". For those able to read German the thread can be found here .
