HK DVD Release Schedule

Ok - HK isn't the best at announcing titles for pre-order, but occasionally some info trickles in... I'd like this thread to be devoted to release dates of HK DVDs... US editions of HK films are fine too...

This week:

July 31 - Maniacal Night

August 3 - Born Wild

I know - sad... wish I had more info - anyone else with better resources??

That's where I took it from, I wasn't sure you wanted it here since it was you who posted it in the other thread. I just cleaned it up a bit.

A very good source for upcoming R1 releases of Old School Martial Arts films is DVD Cult's Kung Fu DVD page:

http://www.dvdcult.com/KungFuDVD.htm

Evidently they have "inside" contacts with some of the releasing companies and always provide great information.

Thanks - Bichunmoo better be widescreen or I'll be mad.

I know it says it will be 1.85:1, but region3 time and tide said anamorphic widescreen and it ended up being fullscreen.

Yeah - I'll have to order that one I guess - the R1 was a Tai Seng sticker on the case of the DeltaMac disc.

Fighting to Learn (formerly called My Schoolmate The Barbarian) will be released on September 20 on DVD. This movie is the latest from the North American boys Nic Tse and Stephen Fung, along with controversial singer Joey Yung.

Para Para Sakura has been delayed a few times and will most likely be released on DVD on September 19.

Born Wild (the HK version) will be released on September 18.

In case you've been asleep for a couple of weeks, the #1 HK film of all time (box office-wise) Shaolin Soccer was released on September 14 on DVD.

Legend of Zu I anticipate will be coming out on DVD in October, if the VCD to DVD pattern that I've been seeing holds. It is slated to come out on VCD on September 25.

How is she controversial? I listened to a few of her songs before and they weren't bad.

ahh...you're not into HK gossip, are you?

to make a long story short, she's involved in a couple of triad beatings, most notably the pummeling of Eric Tsang a couple of months ago.

Oh really??!! I should read the paper more. As you can see I don't keep up with the daily HK gossip.

yeah, basically both Eric Tsang and DJ Leung Sze Ho made sarcastic comments over the air about the relationship between the 20yo Joey and her 50+ yo manager/boss Albert Yeung. And both paid for it. Albert has been known in the past to have many triad connections. This has far reaching implications since he is the boss of the group that manages other entertainers such as actor Nicholas Tse. He is also co-owner of a food company along with Jackie Chan.

Eric is a powerful person in the HK community so I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of retaliation soon....stay tuned.

Sorry for digressing from the thread...

More upcoming releases

Additional films available for pre-order from DVD Shelf:

United We Stand, And Swim (9/27) (DVD and VCD)
Mei Ah; Anthony Wong, Sammy Leung, Wyman Wong; directed by Matt Chow. From the Mei Ah site:

Teen "Fish" was dumped by his girlfriend for his poor and shameful swimming skill. To recover his confidence in sports and dignity as a man, he enrolls in a swimming class and vows a wow.

In the first lesson "Fish" meets a class likes a living hell: a con man in his bid to swim across the sea for his big 'deals' but always too scared of water; an airhead drunkard full of nonsense; an odd couple learn swimming before heading for a Malta tour; and above all, a pot-bellied coach with a money-mind . His determination to swim like a fish vapors in the first call of the class. Yet the next moment something stunning appearsˇK When his eyes hook up a classmate as sweet as a mermaid.

also:
Cross-Harbour Tunnel (9/26) (VCD)
Asia Video; directed by Lawrence Wong; "an accidental hit at this year's Hong Kong International Film Festival" (no English subtitles listed)

also:
DDD House posted on their web site that Fighting to Learn (released originally as "My School Mate, Barbarian") has been delayed, "expected October, 2001 Someday"

Boy bad timing. I'm going to be in HK next week for only a few days and wanted to pick up La Brassiere and Love Me Love My Money. Oh well.

By the way, I'm going to have dinner with Johnny of DDDHouse, probably on Thursday. Anyone have any requests or questions for him (sorry can't bring back any DVDs, I've got a big shopping list already).

[Mod note: The follow-up deserved its own thread:

Are there any good places to learn of upcoming price reductions or which titles are out of print?
