Brotherhood of the Wolf DVD

According to DVDRama Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) is due on French DVD in December. No more details yet. This is the new werewolf/action movie with Marc Dacascos directed by Christophe Gans (Crying Freeman).

Rumour has it slated as a 3-4 dvd set with a ton of extras profiling all aspects of the making of the film. Sounds ambitious, but Crying Freeman had a ton of supplemental material so its not totally out of the question. English subtitles are a major question mark at this point, and quite frankly they would be idiotic to not include them as they have been pushing a subtitled print of this one at various festivals lately.

Considering the In the Mood for Love SE will have English subs it's there's probably a good chance for this one as well. We can hope at least.

I was just about to ask when this movie was going to come out over there on dvd. The trailer looks great. I'm guessing there are no werewolves in it though. It kind of looks like a murder mystery in a way. Somebody picked up the rights to release this in America, but I can't remember who it was. I believe the release date for theatres is Nov 2nd. If anyone wants to check out the trailer it's on zentertainment.com. Also I read that this was recorded in French and English, so when it's released here It will probably just be the English version.

Universal picked up the American rights. I would bet that they release a collector's edition for the film.

I can't see how they would have recorded 2 separate versions of the movie since it would substantially increase the budget. In the trailer even Marc Dacascos is clearly speaking French (he's not a French speaker) and most of the rest of the cast is French with, most likely, limited English skills so the US version will most likely just be a dub.

FYI, if you have the French Crying Freeman LE DVD the BotW trailer is hidden on the main menu of the first disc. Push right to highlight the dragon's eye and you can view the trailer.

They simply had two takes. One in English, one in French. Why would that increase the budget that much? All the expensive stuff like action, special effects and big camera moves generally have nothing to do with the dialogue, so they don't do those parts twice.

This would not be without precedent. The recent French film Crimson Rivers was recorded in French and English versions, with most of the original cast doing their own English dub. Post production dialouge looping doesn't cost much money, other than to have the actors present. If an English language version would have been done, it wouldn't have been shot synch sound, as it would, as you suggest, substantially increase the budget.
