Nevermind. I figured it out. I hit the PAL button when I was selecting the tv signal system. I returned it to auto and that fixed it.

Is there a Faq somewhere so that I don't drive you guys crazy with questions?

Thanks,

Ken

OT: Philips DVD701

Slightly off-topic, but I figured I post this here since the Malata thread is getting a lot of traffic.

Target is unloading their Philips DVD701 stock at their B&M stores. These are multi-region hackable, PAL/NTSC compatible, and are going for less than $90 apiece.

Has anyone had any expereince with this unit, and specifically, does anyone know whether they default to PAL/NTSC based on the format of the inserted DVD or if the user can select PAL/NTSC output? (Or, in layman's terms, can I put a R2 PAL disc in the player and view it on my NTSC TV like my Apex can?)

Well, if you can - it will look the same as on your APEX (ie. anamorphic discs will be stretched too tall and regular discs will be somewhat squished...)

I've never experienced any problem viewing APEX-converted PAL discs on my NTSC tube, though the R2 titles I currently own are all 1.33:1 (Prissoner and Farscape TV Series).

The question stands... is the Philips' unit output selectable?

The Phillips doesn't do the PAL->NTSC consersion in the player like the Malta does.
