I this for new members only or can you pay $67 and get your current membership extended for a year?

One could probably gift themselves a year, setting it to be delivered the day your current year expires. It's worked that way in the past, I'll try it on Friday.

Thanks for the heads up. I let mine expire earlier this month as I haven't really been using it, but I'll probably resub for $67.

Had Prime a couple of years ago when I got it for $59 ($79-$20). Then it jumped up to $99. Probably will sign up at the $67 price.

Hoping there's a work around to get that price for existing people. It would be nice if Amazon did something for long time subscribers.

^I'm not holding my breath... *NO* vendor seems to care about long time subscribers/customers. "Special incentives" are typically targeted to "new" users only.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Amazon adds a lot of features to the Prime service (I'm not counting "Prime Day").

Amazon hates its customers and treats its employees like crap- I'm done with them, even if it means paying more elsewhere.

Re: Amazon Prime Membership, $67 a year, 9/25 only
I was a loyal customer for 11 years and quit Amazon in April 2013. I still got updates on deals, and received a final notification on deals Christmas 2014.
Two days later I received a personal message from custom services. They wished I would come back to Prime, and they were hinting at a big event for 2015 (which turned out to be Prime Day). I thought the personal message was nice even though they were only doing it for the business.
I quit amazon because I felt like going back to the roots - as in the thrill of getting my cheap and convenient ass up and supporting local stores selling blu-rays. I might not get everything I want but I'm fine with that.

I don't really see how Amazon "hates" its customers. Even though I shop less with them due to pricing no longer being significantly better then competitors and no longer having the tax advantage, I still think they're pretty great overall.

I've subscribed to Prime for quite a while and am a bit irritated by this. Yeah it's only being offered at a discounted rate for a day but even so it's a significant difference in price and I just renewed again in August. It'd be nice if they offered a gift card or something to people who have been with them for a while.
Overall I can't complain about Amazon too much though I guess as they're a big source of Blu-ray's, comics, and various other things plus I don't have to pay tax which is nice.

From lifehacker's post on today's sale.
As soon as you check out, the membership will be immediately applied to your account, and your account only: No gifting allowed. And if you already have Prime, you won’t be allowed to check out at all.

I got a similar deal when I joined Prime last year for the first time, so I don't feel too bad that I can't do that again for renewal.

I sent a polite email to Amazon complaining that new customers are getting a better Prime rate than longstanding members and they're hooking me up with the $67 price.

OK you whiny bitches, all you have to do is initiate a chat with Amazon CSR, be nice and polite, and they will cancel your existing Prime and refund you at a pro-rated rate then supply a link so you can re-buy prime for the next year at $67.
