Was there ever anything worth reading in Maxim?

I read about the new cars coming out, some of the music and movie reviews. There were articles from various "xtreme!!!!" athletes or ex-military personnel that I read through. Didn't give a shit about the fashion or hooking up with chicks advice.

The magazine business is dying before our eyes.

That probably has more to do with the fact that I (and others) stopped posting deals here than the current state of print media. I personally didn't think there was enough interest to warrant continuing based on the inactivity of the forum.

That said, SD and a few other bargain websites have magazine sub-forums that are more active than you might think. There's probably not a week that goes by that they don't offer at least something.

I actually think the new maxim isn't half bad. The photos of the models are well done and they use top models. But, I still got a year and a half of free playboy and the first non nude issue was terrible. They really should have gotten rid of the centerfold as it is a joke now.

Boo! I refuse to look at SD or similar places. But if I stumble upon a deal I paste it here.

Yep. I expect we'll be seeing PLAYBOY here soon now that they removed all the nude women - even in the cartoons!

Not exactly a fan either, but sometimes they're a necessary evil.

I still have an active (free) subscription. But since the March issue, it goes directly into the recycle bin.

It's back! Magazines are getting awfully thin these days.

https://rewardsurvey.com/

Take the one page survey each week and you can get usually $20 in points to "buy" subscriptions - and can save up your points for more expensive subs. Not that much choice but usually several good ones including currently MEN'S HEALTH (12 issues, $12), W (10 issues $12) and NEW YORK MAGAZINE (26 biweekly issues, $30). US WEEKLY is also available to new subscribers $75 (78 issues).

rewardsurvey.com just added Time magazine. Tough one to get free!
Recyclebank.com has People magazine for half off for 1170 points for new subscribers for limited time. Do some activities and get points. They also have sports Illustrated and entertainment weekly.

Anyone know a good deal on Entertainment Weekly?

I'm not interested in doing reward points or surveys. I'm just looking for a low price.

SteveinPhilly 04-03-16 04:50 PM

Re: Free Magazines (Updated Daily)

It's been in the $19.95 range but the recycle rewards method (not surveys) is so easy to build up points answering questions. That's how I get it.

You don't need a lot.

I think it's also on the $2.00 mag list with auto renew

Re: Free Magazines (Updated Daily)

If anybody is interested, there is another site like recyclebank.com
The site is called Dailybreak.com
if you earn 500 points from easy free activities, you can order a free magazine. You can also spin each day for free points. (it says spin at top of page on site)
I only mention it because they temporarily have one of my favorite magazines at the moment. Vanity Fair which I never see for free. The magazine options change every few weeks in their store.

Thanks! I signed up and got 50 points and did 1 spin and got 3 more but I don'y see how you get more points from "Free activities". There's no Help icon. Can you explain. Recycle Rewards is great and easy.

Re: Free Magazines (Updated Daily)

There are activities all across the front page. I am not sure it adds up to 500 points but there is one for"Poise" for 35 points and one for "windex" and one about being a crafter for 35 points and a few more for 25 points each (all on the right side of the page). On the left side there are several worth 5 points each. There is a tiny number showing how much each activity is worth in each panel like for Poise and windex showing a "35." It is very similar to recyclebank. They add new activities daily and you can spin extra times if you spin every day. There are point activities when you hit the categories "entertainment" "lifestyle" "laugh" and "News" near the top of the page as well. I think I may have done some of the larger point ones like for 35 points twice on different days and they may have paid points a second time. Worth a try if you need more.
I just thought it may be worth it because I was able to order vanity fair and they put out a fantastic hollywood issue once every year. Even though the magazines may change every few weeks. The rewards are shown when you hit "store" at the top of page and then hit store prizes at top of that page.

Thanks. Now I have it. Looks like you can only do 9 activities each day.

Interesting site. Thanks for sharing.

I have a Citi Easy Deals credit card, which earns points and sometimes the redeemable rewards are magazines. Vanity Fair was the daily deal back in February. It wasn't technically free, but I thought I'd mention it as a sighting. I have more of those points than I'll ever spend, so I think of it as free.

First off. Thanks "g". I actually gharnered 500 points in 3 days spending abiout 15 min per day. Vanity Fair isn't one I really want but it was fun to play. And if you choose the ones with lists (usually 10 points) you don'yt have to read - just scroll and you get them

Strapped - The reason that you will never use up those points is because the magazines just want to add to cireculkation. And ANT credit card "points" (not cash back - are worth VERY LITTLE. I have a friend who has an Amex "Rewards Card" - not cash back. She has 20,000 points. It she wants to exchange for gift cards the exchange rate gives here 25 cents cent back per 100points. Versus a 2% cash back card that gives you $2.00 back in cash for the same 100 points.

As for mags - the easiest is still the $2.00 per year offers that you can canel after a year.

SteveinPhilly, thanks. Though I was already aware that their reason is to bump the circulation numbers up.

As for the cc, I have others so use it rarely, but have had this one for almost 20 years so I wouldn't cancel it unless I need to. That having been said, this one gives me access to Citi Easy Deals which redeems 1 point as $1 (and I have over 1600 points). A fair amount of the stuff is things I don't need like household goods and jewelry which take say 50 points/dollars off an $80 item, but $30 charged to the cc is still necessary. However, they also have the free magazine subs., but also $5 and (rarely) $10 gift cards. Those sell out quickly, but in the last 6 months I've scored 3 $5 Target cards, 2 $5 Wal-Mart ones, a Chick-fil-a, and a B&N. Since I have the points anyway and it only takes me a couple minutes to see what daily deal is that they have, then it seems worth it to cash out that money as I can.
