Great question. I am interested in this too. I have two APC SmartUPS 1000s gathering dust in the corner of my office because I need to replace the batteries. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Take them in to a battery store. I had one of the big UPS go bad and took it to Interstate Battery. The batteries had overheated and were bulging. They were able to replace them easily. They use the same tape of batteries as the backup power supply for a home burglar alarm system.

Depends on what kind of battery. I got some replacements at Rage Battery that worked out ok and they had the best price when shipping was considered. I'm going to use them again.

A place like CDW (www.cdw.com) sells the APC replacement batteries. That's where I got my battery.

it depends on the ups, but the ones that i have that are near FAR, i find it's cheaper just to wait for a sale and buy another UPS. i always have 1 or 2 extra ups's laying around in case one of the batteries dies.

I've had good luck with the Battery Tech replacements, which I've found at Amazon and Buy.com for around the same price. The two I purchased at the same time have been running for almost two years with no issues.

I had never heard of Rage Battery, but their prices are dirt cheap in comparison. $11.50 + $10 shipping for an RBC-5 is about half of what I paid at Buy.com.
