For speaker stands, I got mine at Ikea a couple years ago. $30 for a set.

Thanks! Picked these up and they are pretty nice. Can't beat the price.

I just got these for $27.87 at Wal Mart last week and have been particularly happy. They're made by Atlantic (although the website doesn't mention that) and the bases are really, really heavy (cast iron, perhaps?) and make this set particularly sturdy. The speakers attach easily to the stands and don't wobble or move around in their mounts at all.

The picture is actually missing most of the mounting bracket. Believe me, there is a special platform where the speakers sit that isn't displayed in the photo above.

Here's a link to the website:

I've had those same ones for a couple of years, great deal for the price. They actually come with a bag of several different speaker brackets, so you have a lot of options to work with. The only minor quibble is that they only come in grey, and I would have prefered black. I could paint them, but haven't bothered!

I'll third that opinion. Picked these up a couple of months ago for my Man Cave and have been happily satisfied. Sturdy, easy to mount, well balanced, looks sharp, and MUCH less expensive than what you'll find elsewhere or on the web.

As far as speakers go, it all depends on how much you NEED to spend and how much power you want to push out thru them. Many folks are completely satisfied with 5.1 sets that come in
