Here's some info from a friend that posts here.

I've been burning DVD-R, which to my understanding is
more widely compatible with older DVD players than
DVD+R.

I like media made by a Japanese company called Taiyo
Yuden. Pretty much anything marked Made in Japan is
made by TY. I know for sure TY makes Fuji's discs
(both CDs and DVDs).

I'm buying my DVD-Rs online, either at
www.meritline.com or www.supermediastore.com . Both
have sales with an online code that essentially makes
the shipping free. I pay about $32 total for a spindle
of 100. The discs are unbranded Taiyo Yuden, with
either silver laquer or printable plain white labels.
I get the silver, then use Avery transparent film
labels from Staples. They look great.

Meritline has TY on sale right now. They're labeled
4X, but they burn at 8X in the NEC drives:

http://www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden...r-lacquer.html

When I bought from meritline, I had my order in two
days. The discs don't come actually on a spindle,
they're bulk wrapped. So the first time you order from
Meritline, you probably want to order a cakebox,
either two 50-d-sc boxes or one 100-disc, here:

Still... No posts beat the price Staple had a while back... $8 for 50 dvd-r or dvd+r discs... I brought three of those and still got plenty left (even after a massive request of a family dvd, man, people are lazy and greedy, can you burn me one? how can you say no...)

What coupon - was there one in the coupon book? I don't remember seeing that one...

What brand are those, btw?

I believe it's in the coupon book. I can't find mine but usually they have them at the register.

They are TDK 8X cd-r or cd+r.

The sale starts in the next week or two.

It appears to be a NON TECH code. Sorry.
Code: 49014048 $30 off $150 (exp. 08/01) seems to work.
That's gonna be a helluva lot of DVDs though.

The other code does work for ink, though, even if not for tech stuff.

I am Costco addicted. I still have like 9 15-packs from the Staples deal a few months ago, that I've only used like 6 of, and I can't wait to use that b1g1 coupon.

Have you people looking for dual-layered blanks ever used them?

I was very unimpressed with their performance.

Currently Fry's Electronics (Bay Area, CA) has a 50-pk of either DVD+R or DVD-R for $9.50. They are GQ brand (don't know if this is crap or not).

My local Office Max has 100 packs of Memorex printable DVD+R for $40.00. They're only 4x speed, but if you need printables it's a pretty good deal.

Yup. About a dozen times. No coasters. No problem with performance. Used Ritek and Verbatim.

What do you mean by unimpressed with the performance? You use a DL DVD to be able to store more data. Not for image quality or burn speed.

With a DVR'd movie, very slow chapter navigation, very long layer break.

I used Memorex. People seem to be having better luck with other brands.

Yep. memorex are supposed to suck, from what I've heard.

Where did you burn it? Stand-alone or on your PC?

PC, on an NEC which burns pretty much anything very well.

The media code of the disc is RITEKD01 so it looks like it's Ritek. I'm doing a media scan on it right now. It looks like it's got fairly high PI and PIF numbers.
