eBay "Mystery Auctions"

Hey all,
i just stumble across "Mystery Auctions" on eBay. There is quite a bit of interesting "Boxes" being auctioned. I am just curious. Has anyone ever bid on any of these auctions? If so, what kind of stuff have u gotten? Any good stories? any bad stories? Any good surprises?

the ultimate question, is it worth bidding?

Interesting ... I'm curious about the "unsearched" gem bags.

Check out http://www.goldenpalacecasino.com

It all started with a mystery envelope. I think people started putting mystery or weird items up for auction just to get some outrageous bid from golden palace casino and then it took off as a new selling fad. Check out some of the auctions they won in the past: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...1&frompage=222

I'm betting on quarters.

Edit : No probably pennies. He calls it "cold hard" cash, which defines coins to a T. Also, he wants $20 to ship it.

Sorry, I should have specified that you've got to click on the auction numbers to the right of the feedback. For instance: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5569364441

So, what was in the envelope? Did the buyer ever say?

It does sound very interesting. Perhaps you should bid one and tell us what you get. Or even share how much you got screw over?!

Perhaps you can win a Mystery Auction bid for $100, but receive like $10,000 in cash inside a coffee can.

Mystery auctions, Shmystery auctions. I prefer knowing what I'm getting ahead of time. Especally when it's crayons.

yeah, say someone originally starts with 1k in the can.. I'm going to trust them to keep the whole 1k in the can if the bid only hits 100 dollars... not gonna happen. Only way i would do this is if some third party with no involvement were to hold it from the time it is posted to the time the bidding stops to make sure there is no tampering.

I liked looking at the auctions that Golden Palace won. It seems that someone is a Justice League fan.

So you're telling me I could fill a coffee can with pennies, and auction it off as a mystery auction, and get like $1,000?

People will buy anything on eBay.

I'm really thinking of getting into this, but it seems too good to be true (being a seller, not a bidder)
