To this day, I don’t know why, but 2001 is probably the only Kubrick film I haven’t seen. I’ll rectify that though with the 4K. I’m sure that’s reference material.

Arthur C Clarke and Kubrick worked on the book while the movie was being made. There are some "what the hell is going" moments in the movie that are explained better in the book.

I'm hoping they'll release 2010: The Year We Make Contact on 4K. I thought it was a very good sequel with a stellar cast.

the newer one or the Argento one? I’m guessing the Argento one since it got great a/v reviews.

I can’t believe it’s a G rated movie. I thought it had dark/scary scenes. Shows how much I know about the movie.

I’m guessing regular cable would have HDR greyed out in tv settings since it doesn’t emit that signal. I’ll try when I put a 4K Blu-ray in the machine and then go to picture settings and hopefully it’s full functioning. Does that sound correct?

Scary is subjective. There are some trippy scenes that might be considered "scary". There's some fighting in the "Dawn of Man" sequence at the beginning.

Re: Your top 5 4K Blu-rays that are reference quality?

I upgraded my Avatar to 4k in anticipation of the new flick so we gave it a spin the other night. Easily the most impressive looking discs I've watched in awhile. The colors, sharpness and overall beauty of Pandora and it's inhabitants make it look almost 3d despite just being a non-3d, standard release. So clean, crisp and vibrant.

It's been awhile since I watched the full film but the opening to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 when the team is fighting the giant space slug while Groot dances is fucking gorgeous.

Got Avatar on the way. I saw the 3D effect even though it wasn’t 3D on something. I bet Avatar is truly a site to behold.

Some are even calling it the Dvdtalk of UHDs.

You'll get a better idea of the absolute-best UHDs here for PQ:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/new...kings.3258239/

For older films, the best I've seen by far is My Fair Lady. Every UHD owner needs that disc in their collection.

Off the top of my head - Blade Runner 2049, The Revenant, Se7en, The Sound of Music, Oppenheimer, Lawrence of Arabia, and Top Gun: Maverick. This doesn't include a dozen or so animated films which look amazing.

Ordered 2049, Oppenheimer, Seven, Revenant and Maverick. I bet those aerial scenes are spectacular.

I mean, 1 and 2 were very early 3D renders, at less than HD resolution, so they don't really dazzle on 4K. 3 and 4 probably look much nicer.

I got the first 3 as steelbooks when Best Buy had a sale. They are all very colorful but #4 really stands out in 4K.

I hope for Studio Ghibli to release more of their catalog in 4K. I think their only 4K is The Boy and the Heron, which I've yet to get.

Tron: Ares got perfect 10s from Shane Lee.

Given how incredibly picky he is, I'm really excited for this disc.

You still dealing with that spending problem, Oldboy? Or do you have it under control now?

What I want to know is does this mean he's done with 3D? Just like that?

Re: Your top 5 4K Blu-rays that are reference quality?

I am done with 3D. Tv is unhooked up and ready to be recycled. 4K makes a picture almost look 3D anyway, so I feel they are nice, but unnecessary and not really needed at this point. I’m a convert and pretty damn impressed from what little I’ve seen on it thus far.

And the spending, I’m just whittling away my Amazon credit. Tv and player took a big chunk. Now, just using it to buy some good 4K’s and that should do it.

Re: Your top 5 4K Blu-rays that are reference quality?

I have like over 20 4K’s coming Friday and very much excited to try them out with my new configuration. Hardest part was getting all my consoles put back and switching out the cables to 8K HDMI’s.
