DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE: Digital October 1, 2024 / Physical October 22, 2024

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...3c3e0abd5d.png

All three 4K Blu-ray editions of “Deadpool & Wolverine” will feature the film encoded in 4K and HDR, Dolby Vision onto a 66GB-size disc, with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Providing more than two hours of this bonus material will be a filmmaker commentary track featuring director Shawn Levy and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. It’s a pity, perhaps, that Hugh Jackman seemingly couldn’t make the recording of this track as well, but experience suggests that Levy and Reynolds should be more than entertaining enough to hang out with for a couple of hours even without Jackman to banter with.

Also provided on the 4K Blu-ray releases are a trio of deleted scenes, described by Disney as follows:

Elevator Ride – Paradox explains the sacred timeline to Deadpool as they walk around the TVA.
Do Nothing – B-15 instructs Paradox to stay out of trouble, rejecting his efforts to take action.
Daddy’s In Love – B-15 and Peter strike up a romance. Peter announces he is in love to his friends, Headpool and Kidpool.

The other main features on “Deadpool & Wolverine”’s 4K Blu-ray release are a quartet of featurettes focusing on different elements of the film’s production. Here’s what Disney has to say about these:
  • Finding Madonna: Making the Oner – Director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds break down a historic scene in the film: the “Oner,” which highlights the first fight in which Deadpool and Wolverine finally unite.
  • Practical Approach: Celebrating the Art of Ray Chan – A tribute to longtime Marvel Studios collaborator Ray Chan, who sadly passed away in 2024 – the cast and crew recall anecdotes and echo the resounding positive effects of filming on the set he helped design, full of intricate details and Easter eggs.
  • Loose Ends: The Legacy Heroes – Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and the cast and crew go through some of the mind-blowing cameos and the characters who finally get their deserved endings. They cover the intensive choreographed sequences, updated costumes, and assembling the iconic team.
  • Wolverine – Hugh Jackman describes the return to his iconic role as Wolverine. Cast and crew discuss how he picks up his yellow and blue suit for the first time, brings variety to the role, and continues his legacy from previous films.
Wrapping the extras up—unless it turns out there are one or two easter eggs to be found—are a (likely very funny) Gag Reel, and what’s inevitably called a “Fun Sack” of silly little tidbits including a Dr Deadpool video where our masked hero kindly informs us of the risks of testicular cancer; a Product Review where Deadpool shows off some of the toys and trinkets used throughout the Deadpool franchise; and a Wade is Back clip where Reynolds and Jackman promote a movie, but Reynolds misleads Hugh on exactly which movie they’re promoting.

Walmart-exclusive HD Blu-ray release of the film that features pop up packaging showing a mountain of different Deadpools crowding around a single unfortunate Wolverine figure.

Regular 4K cover for me.

Not a steelbook person, but those covers are cool. The Walmart BD exclusive is kind of neat, but I am beyond the days of buying multiple copies of the same movie.

Thanks. Holy shit, $65? I guess I can cancel if the price doesn't drop, and it probably will. At least I hope it will.

Yeah they drop the price but still... the starting price is nuts.

Yeah, no. Seems like they're testing the waters for future pricing or pushing the limit of physical buyers/trying to get people to move to streaming).

My money is the regular 4K will be the "standard" sale price of $27.99 to $29.99

I know that's not cheap, but we're living in an era will people and companies are trying to push out physical media.

Damn, I'll wait to see if Japan pulls out a 3D version for that price.

It's already solicited in Japan (I think late last week). However many/most retailers will impose region shipping restriction outside of Japan (including the U.S.). Disney Japan changed production & sales partner earlier this year (to Happinet).

You can't order it from Amazon Japan https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0DGTSNK27 (their SteelBook versions have also sold out). Standard Edition isn't listed on CD Japan (it's listed on their Japan only site: https://www.neowing.co.jp/product/WDUF-1003). You pretty much need a forwarding service if you really need to order from Amazon Japan or CD Japan.

Standard Edition is currently available at:

Was hoping for a Deadpool trilogy box set, since I never got the previous two.

Don't forget the standard Blu-ray has its own separate artwork

I assume the Wolverine steelbook will be the most popular and best selling out of the bunch.

I've got my fingers crossed for Walmart to have the standard 4K for $30 or so on release week.

Only looking to get the steelbook because I have the first two Deadpool steelbooks. If the price doesn't get reasonable for this one I'll wait a year or more and pick up the standard edition on a theoretical sale in the future.

Amazon just dropped the Deadpool variant to match that price (Wolverine shows unavailable). Still, at that price I will be cancelling. The non steelbook is still $50. They are smoking crack at these prices.

I am not seeing the ‘discounted’ price on my Wolverine order yet.

Yeah same here but if you click on the item page it shows the lower price for the Deadpool version.

We don't know if the Wolverine version gets discounted or not. We'll see I guess.

If you're not interested in the steelbooks (which may ultimately be limited in quantity), the standard edition should drop a lot in price in the future, if you're willing to wait. In the past, for example, you could easily count on Deadpool and Deadpool 2 being available for $9.99 or $7.99 at Black Friday. There are a couple things in flux, though, that make things uncertain now. First, we don't know what the pricing structure will be like with 20th Century under Disney, being distributed by Sony. Will it follow previous Fox pricing, with titles available at $7.99 and $9.99? Will it follow previous Disney pricing, with titles usually not falling below about $12.99? The other unknown is what will Black Friday look like now? Best Buy is out of the game, and they were one of the big drivers of sales prices. Will there still be a big slate of heavily discounted titles? Have the studios adjusted their manufacturing runs in light of the decline of physical media, and they'll no longer have large surpluses of titles that they want to liquidate on Black Friday?

The standard 4K on Amazon has dropped to $29.96.

Both the steelbooks show unavailable as of this post and the pre-order for the Wolverine variant still hasn't dropped from $65.99. -screwy-
