This was an interesting bit of info on the product page:
I would say it's confirmation that there will be more versions, likely a cheaper mass-market edition with fewer discs.

No, the promo popped up just fine and prompted me to sign up for texts in exchange for the free shipping promo code. I was then prompted to text YES to confirm the signup. I did so, received a message thanking me for signing up, and then nothing happened.

yes baby!!!! All in for that fat Japanese edition! Sux the 4th disc is all Japanese. that blows, but i'll be glad to own a set like that with all it comes with. will look perfect on my Arrow shelf.

I watched the movie on Vudu and liked it a lot but I'll be waiting to buy a cheaper set that goes to retailers probably this fall.

I'm still bummed that Minus Color is not in 4K, however. So I just know if a domestic set makes up for that oversight, I'll get it as well. :lol:

Totally agree. That’s a lot of bonus features not to have subtitles. Four f**king hours? Seriously? I can wait until someone does this right. And they will (and apologies in advance, but I won’t buy the argument that the four hours of bonus stuff still ‘works’ without the subs! :lol: ). Activating subs on just the movies feels like a Toho cash-grab before the inevitable North American edition (or editions, more likely, because I’m sure they’ll milk it for color and b&w). I agree the packaging is pretty, but I dislike those digipacks with the glued-on trays. Won’t be long. ;)

I liked it enough to want to buy it but not a release with Japanese packaging and an extras disc with no English subtitles. That's not meant as an insult to anyone but any other North American physical media release has to accommodate to the English speaking world.

Also, when it comes to western releases of Japanese films such as this, sometimes they (wisely) trim down or delete some of the ‘special event’ and ‘announcement conference’ videos which seem to be a staple of the Japanese industry. Even the ‘event’ footage that is included with many American releases – including anime – is borderline punishing, with everyone being so soft-spoken and nice and practically begging the assembled press and/or fans to like the movie. There seems to be a lot of that in the Japanese box. In this case, I’m assuming the three actual ‘making of’ features will be a bigger drawing card for a North American edition (with a few choice event clips). I do wish those had running times posted.

this incarnation of Godzilla is the best one represented in a theatrical movie, creature wise. the design is just gorgeous and that close-up on the edition box just looks so detailed and dare I say, real.

It is a bit disappointing that the bonus disc is Japanese only and doesn’t even include English subtitles. Plus the Minus Color version only being Blu-ray and not 4K. I want the set because the movie was awesome but not sure I’ll be getting it and may just wait for the North American release. It’d be cool if Criterion would get the license.

I got both discount codes to work and placed my order. My physical media buying is way down this year anyway, it's even gotten to where I rarely find used discs to buy so I don't mind splurging on something nice like this. A little annoying about the extras, but I just so rarely watch anything like that anymore, even the really good ones (like the older Star Wars making-ofs).

I know a lot of you don't care about bonus material or behind the scenes content. But, for the kind of money that set costs, I want to be able to view it and understand it. That's in addition to the movies. I always believe in added value for money spent.

If I only cared about the movies, might as well just watch it on Netflix or buy a $15 digital copy.

I've seen the movie 3 times already, I'll just wait patiently until a set comes out that works better for me.

I understand the sentiment that every ones wants the entire set in 4K including Minus Color. But, it's in B&W, it's not like the image will be greatly enhanced. HD to me is perfectly fine. Our eyes can only see so much enhancement. We don’t even know if Toho has any plans to make a 4K version of Minus Color. The current digital copy on the market is only HD.

I placed an order for this and was able to use both codes, which was great because I also dropped cash on the big Hitcher boxset that also went on up for sale this week. I guess this is just the week for big extravagant boxsets for 1 movie to go up for sale.
