Films you don't really like but bought because of audio/video presentation

There's gotta' be some of you that do this, right? :p

I just snagged the recently Kong/Godzilla flicks. I didn't hate them but I didn't really like them, either, but I kept reading about how the audio surround mixes are so amazing I had to hear them for myself.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Too bad too, because I like the Eurocomics.

I'll also add those Bay Transformers movies to my list of something I only got because of sound mixing.

Not that I don’t like them, but I bought Planet Earth, Blue Planet 4K discs for background viewing. Sometimes it’s fun to watch them with alternate music playing, almost like music videos.

I’m not going to watch them one by one or anything like that.

From the other thread, Transformers The Last Knight in 4k absolutely. The movie is 'meh' (better than most in the series) but looks fantastic in 4k

Tons of 3D titles- even imported Hobbs and Shaw from Germany!

That was definitely one for me, and it was my go-to whenever I wanted to show off my TV or shiny new home theater, although The Last Knight is now one of the very few UHD titles in my "get rid of" pile.

Back in the DVD days, I think The Fast and the Furious was the first movie I ever bought purely for the presentation. Or at least it's the first one that springs to mind.

I actually don’t know if I’ve ever bought a disc of a film I didn’t care for just for demo purposes.

It's still in my 'keep' pile (see other thread) but also just because of Stanley Tucci. :)

For the most part, just about every DC 4k disc. I haven’t gone though any of them in full, but the sound is reference. So all action sequences. I skip the talky parts.

It really is unreal. I remember watching Man of Steel and Black Panther on consecutive days, being blown away by how immersive the Atmos was in MoS (the aerial action in particular takes strong advantage), and then Black Panther was just so limp and lifeless by comparison, with even the ships flying overhead in the climax not making nearly as much of an impression.

(Without being too specific).

Generic action movies and lousy sci-fi movies on bluray.

None. There's plenty of 4K demo stuff on YouTube with tranquil accompanying music. Makes for a nice background and saves wear on the player.

eta: Maybe the closest disc would be Gemini Man.

I try not to. I mean, I have some popcorn flicks that aren't exactly really deep or anything but are still fun to watch and enjoy (The Fifth Element comes to mind).

And I couldn't have a gap in my Star Wars collection so I have The Last Jedi in 4K.

Absolutely. WB usually does a solid job with their sound with home releases. The MCU movies - and just about every Disney owned movie in general - has not delivered with this at all. I’m not sure why.

+1 yep, Gemini Man is the truth in demo worthy stuff. But I actually like the film in itself too.

I had picked it up on sale. I was happy with my purchase.

This is not meant to be a snooty remark, but I don't buy any films I don't like. Life is too short.
